Going back out on loan to Boro this time

Sky Sports understands that Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

The 19-year-old is set to move to Teesside on loan, but only after the Carling Cup final on Sunday.

Shelvey has already spent time in the Championship this season when he shone during a 10-game spell with Blackpool - scoring six goals, including one against Middlesbrough.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray has been looking for possible loan deals he described would be 'wow' signings and Shelvey would certainly rank in that category as a number of Championship clubs were understood to be keen on taking him.

But he now looks to be heading to Middlesbrough and is due to join up with the North East club next week.

Boro are still looking at bringing another striker in, and Sky Sports understands that a deal for Nottingham Forest's Ishmael Miller was close to being completed last week before he picked up a fresh injury.

Mowbray is also believed to still hold an interest in Ipswich's Jason Scotland, and could make another loan approach.

I was hoping that he would get more game time for us this season.

Even if he did get more game time it would be the odd one here and there. Better off going to Boro and playing consistently from now till the end of the season.

I'd really like to see some more of these youngsters getting some game time, would rather Shelvey stayed if I'm being honest.

It's good that the likes of Shelvey, Spearing and Kelly are getting a run out but we need to find a way of getting some more of the young ones playing time.

The likes of Morgan, Sterling, Suso, Silva, Coady, etc they must have more opportunities otherwise they're going to grow restless and stagnant and get fed up.

How is Shelvey still 19? Does he have Nigerian descendency?

Smart move no where near ready for first team footie at LFC & better off him getting regular playing time elsewhere at a good level.

Why is it a smart move though?

All it will mean is that he will end up leaving and signing for Middlesbrough.

He'll get the taste for regular football and will want to stay there, that's no good for him and no good for us.

I think he is ready for the first team, Gerrard was younger than Shelvey when he broke through and Shelvey is a talented footballer he can make it at the top level.

There's such a thing called a contract. He will also have been told he's going to get some experience, not to prepare for a permanent move.

It is good move for him cause in the current system he will get few minutes here and there and that's it.

He'll develop better and learn more if he plays regular and highly competitive football than warm our bench at tender age of 19.

In terms of him wanted to stay at Middlesbrough not a chance ( of course unless you're Downing ).

Once he got the taste the playing for LFC first team he would want to come back and genuinely challenge for the starting job, which clearly is not the case atm as he is not ready yet.

Really? Like you honestly believe what you have typed?

Who is Shelvey going to get chosen above? Whilst we continue to develop Kelly and Spearing, we should look to add even more inexperienced players to the ranks when we have everything to fight for, to get fourth? But they're going to grow restless, stagnate and rip up their contracts!!11

Perhaps Morgan for Carroll, Suso for Suarez and Coady for Gerrard, give Sterling the free role, because he's fast innit. Or, we could trust a manager who sees them everyday and recognises that these players (some of which, haven't actually performed great this season) are not ready, because they are not as good as all the hype that they can replace Downing on the internets.

And on top of this, these players need time to develop and learn from their mistakes. Patience needs to be shown from fans - a small portion, granted - who aren't willing to give Kenny more than 18 months in charge? Ha!

                          +1.

I can't quite make my mind up on Shelvey, he clearly has something and I think that's his movement and touch in the final third of the pitch. He seems to have one gear though and doesn't offer much in the tackle, which makes me think him and Henderson are fighting out for the attacking midfield role.

He did well at Blackpool and a similar experience at Middlesbrough will do him the world of good.

Slinky has a habit of morphing into previously banned posters . He was masquerading as Marky a month or so back, and now he's turning into Arn

That's quite rich coming from an imposter like you.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Mate Shelvey is nowhere near ready for first team football, short of being Jonjo's agent i don't know how on earth you could come up with that, each to their own but IMO it's a far fetched notion. And lets not compare Gerrard to Shelvey, similiar age not so much similiar attributes, getting ahead of ourselves IMO. If Shelvey can be even a quarter of the player Gerrard has been we'll be doing well, players like Stevie don't crop up often.

IMO If he is good enough he will be with LFC long term, and if he is not he won't. It's good for the player himself to get regular football & win win for us as if he improves he will come back, and if we see it that he isn't quite up to scratch his market value will surely have improved so it's good for business too.

                                +1.

completely agree with this. Only with regular playing time can he improve, whether or not he will be good enough for LFC first i'm not so sure though.
