I'd agree. Doesn't give away as many fouls, great range of passing, improving engine.

Could become a good player in time.....good work by Rafa bringing him in at an early stage (and cheapish), but will need careful handling

Quite funny how most would agree even after how little we have seen of Jonjo but its just instantly recognizable that he's a step up from Charlie Adam. He is far more agile and seems to be a more intelligent player.

Which is perfect for us as this means we could have Gerrard's successor on our hands

That's what I've been thinking all along, but my worry is that he won't bother sticking round for when Gerrard ****s off in 4 years time.

If he turns out good enough to replace Stevie then we have no choice but to give him playing time and if he keeps showing class like that then I have no doubt his future lies here.

It's a double-edged sword in a way. I love Gerrard, he's an icon, a real talent to have graced this club, but it's things like him patting on his own back/name tag on his shirt after scoring seems to me that he might not gracefully step aside, and from observation I see Shelvey playing better without Gerrard in midfield.

We'll see how it goes. It's very early doors anyways and I'm glad we've got them.

If Shelvey keeps this up then it will be a very good dilemma to have! All big clubs must have competition for places and if Shelvey can be someone to provide that then that's great. May be getting a little ahead of ourselves at this early stage but there is certainly some very obvious signs of his potential.

I don't want to jump the gun here but could we have a young Gary McAllister on our hands?

I love the way he constantly demands the ball and tries to make things happen. Once he gets the ball he has only one thought - move it forward and attack. It is refreshing to see a 20 year old with such confidence.

Lot of rough edges in his game but he has the talent to be polished.

He is going to be a very good premiership midfielder for sure. Whether he will develop into a world class one will depend on his mentality.

To me, he looks like a deep lying player than a guy who plays in the hole.

He's a good footballer. I reckon he'll replace Stevie in the long run.

His time at Blackpool suggested he was better at playing in the hole and I heard a few complaints about his defensive game when he played deeper. Still though, he's still young and could probably play anywhere in midfield if he adjusted to it.

I think they are similar types of player in that they both want to occupy the same space, make the same runs etc... his goal in the Cup the other month was a great example of that

Dont get me wrong Gerrard is far more dynamic but Shelvey can play and I think he could become a really useful player for us in the future

I think the task of replacing Gerrard wont fall to just one player but I think Shelvey could easily be one of those
