Why we wasted £16m on Henderson when you had Shelvey who plays in the same position i have no idea, If it was because Henderson could play on the right, then whoever scouted/called that needs sacking.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Is Shelvey any slower that the likes of Lampard or Scholes? I don’t think he’s as slow as he looks, just very ungainly.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Theres a word called "form" and at the moment, he is not doing too well. He is not doing his defensive job well enough and does not offer as much going forward.

not all formations require a def mid

But yeah, that'll do his development the world of good.
Tempted to agree with Nick to play sterling as well as i just cannot stand downing in the team. I also think Sterling offers alot more pace and by being able to get past players, makes their defense worry.

However not too sure if he could last a whole match, would be good as a sub... used earlier. 60min / 70 min mark?

i.e. does letting players run pass, not harassing them count? change is needed, thats for sure.

                  Can't say I agree Imy.

I think I've seen more from Henderson in his passing ability and link-up play than I have from Shelvey. However, if Henderson could develop the same type of movement shown from Shelvey, we'd have a very good player.

But Spearing and Shelvey are two different types of players.

A midfield of Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson would worry me.

Putting aside a resentment for Downing, why risk the development of a young player with time on his side? And are we basing this on the fact that Sterling is faster than Downing? Because we really need something else from our team at the moment.

But yeah, I agree he would benefit from some game time from the subs bench.

Is Sterling faster than Downing? His little legs might go quicker. Downing's no slouch, he's just generally disappointing.

Give the lad a game.. We've seen what lack of confidence has done to all Downing, Carroll and Henderson.. This lad has the mentality, hopefully he can stay fired up

I'm not too sure, Downing really isn't blessed with pace. At least if he is, he certainly doesn't like to show off about it

Who would you say is pacier than Downing in our squad?

According to an interview with our Aussie Doc, Downing was the quickest player in our squad. That may have changed as we'd not signed Bellamy at that point. The Doc also mentioned Glen Johnson as being very quick. Observe when Downing runs off the ball, he is ridiculously quick. But with the ball, he is very slow. Sterling is definitely quicker with the ball at his feet but off the ball he won't be.

Another player worthy of mention is Toni Silva. Quick and direct, he is IMO a bigger talent than Sterling and has improved so much. And I'll now get ready for the "he's so predictable" - yes he is, but he rarely gets tackled.
