No way will the FA overturn the Shelvey red.

They will point the finger to him being off the floor and 'out of control' as they put it. Its the sort of challenge that they want out of the game but 30 years ago would have been called a good tackle.

Even if they do charge Evans, Jonjo will not get off.

Correct, assuming that the FA are reasonable, fair and able to make unbiased judgements

          It was long time coming.

In every game he seems to have one or 2 very aggresive challenges and it was only a matter of time before he was sent off.

I hope he learned from this as he needs to excersize much better judgement.

Regardless of the fact Halsey made the poor call he shouldn't have found himself in that type of challenge to begin with and his sending off affected the balance of the game and ultimately the result.

            so we're ****ed then

would love to see the memo/email that the FA have sent out to all the refs telling them that fergie has decreed that they should give us **** all

Of course he'll learn. He just needs experience, and I don't think he should be criticised for not having it yet. Gerrard was always a red card waiting to happen and that turned out ok.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

How long after a game would they charge Evans? Can we assume that if it's not done by now, they have taken the view that the ref dealt with the incident so no card is necessary?

It could easily have been a red :

The advice to players is to be mindful of their responsibilities towards an opponent and beware that if they commit to a tackle, at speed, with intensity, with two feet off the ground, they run the risk of being sent off.
All he had to do was catch Suso's standing leg with that and it could have been an ankle breaker - far more dangerous than Shelvey's tackle who swung his leg in from the side.

I hope so as one of the first thing he said after the match is that he couldn't and wouldn't shy away from that type of challenge in an important match.

Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted an apology from Jonjo Shelvey following a clash between the pair in Liverpool's recent defeat to Manchester United.

The Reds' midfielder was sent off for a foul on Jonny Evans shortly before half-time in a highly-charged encounter at Anfield.

20-year-old Shelvey aimed a verbal tirade at the United manager as he headed for the tunnel, feeling that Ferguson had influenced the decision by referee Mark Halsey.

However Shelvey, now serving a three-match ban, has revealed that he sought out the United boss immediately after the end of the game to offer an apology.

"I'm a young boy and I was frustrated because it was a big game," said Shelvey.

"You come from a council house and before you know it you're playing Man United.

"Emotions probably got the better of me. I was a bit of a silly boy, for having a word with him like that. But I pulled him afterwards and apologised.

"Thankfully, he recognised that it took a man to apologise and hopefully there are no hard feelings there."
