    You're missing the point entirely.

Yes Alonso might have more technical ability but if you think about what qualities and experience both players have brought to the club then you will see that they are similar.

It's things like their attitude on and off the pitch, it's not just about them as technical footballers.

Take Christiano Ronaldo for instance - wonderful technical footballer but a total and utter cunt on and off the pitch.

    Think about it.

I'll not even go into the 'workrate' argument as you clearly have no clue.

It will be a sad day when he leaves. He has been an example to all players with his work ethic and attitude. I still think he can do a job for us, albeit a bit part role.

eventually all players go but dirks been a very good servant to this club and we should always think of him with respect and admiration.

with some players its just a job and thats it but with dirk we all know that whenever he wore our shirt he always came off knowing hed given it his best shot and that he had nothing else left in the tank.

Ha ha, a funny. Very good.

Trying to be smart didn't really work though, eh?

I agree with that. Dirk and Xabi's personalities are similar, both are team players and give their all every time they play. But in terms of talent and ability there is a world of difference between the two. We finished second in the 08/09 season then Xabi left and we finished seventh the following season. We are still recovering from the loss of Xabi IMO, when Dirk leaves we won't be seriously affected.

I like Dirk but if & when he goes I wont be overly sad.

Love kyut. He has achieved something many players can only dream of - he's has a cult status at LFC. He's not loved in the way Gerard, carra, Torres, Kenny, Suarez etc... Were but he's a player every fan wants to see involved. Gives his all for the club and is a true ambassador both on and off the pitch. Never been a world class player and never really looked like he was ever going to either but u know what he'll give - 100% every minute he plays. If only we had more players with his attitude - mix with suarezs ability and you'd have the worlds greatest player IMO.

Be gutted when he goes even though it wouldn't be the biggest miss in terms of skill etc... and he's a player I'd have back as coach in the future.

When Baines was asked to name the most difficult PL opponent to play against he ned Kuyt. I think his assessment is more informed than those of armchair critics.

Vital against the other top 6 or so sides, he gives Evra, Cole etc a real tough time
Worthless to a degree against the rest, we have seen countless times that we need someone with a touch more composure, better final ball and end product from the wide areas.
Seems to play worse the more time he has.

Been a vital player for us over a number of years though

So Baines opinion means what exactly here? That Kuyt is in fact a world class player & is vital for Liverpools push for 6th?

I think this has lost its way a little, I dont care what Baines thinks of Kuyt, my opinion is that if we can find a buyer this season then any offer of 5 mill or more would be a good offer given his age & lack of quality, imo of course.

Hes been a good servant to the club, has scored vital goals for us, never in doubt, is made of steel & is also a proven international.

I get that, but still dont think hes vital to us.

The only way he'd become vital to us, is if he started playing a run of games up front and began regularly converting the multitude of chances we create.

Sad news if true, he's been a very good player for us and he will be remembered fondly. If he does leave in the summer I'd imagine the time would be about right, he's not getting much game time at the moment and still has a few years left in him.

However I do worry about the level of experience that we'll be losing with the players that have moved on or been phased out, I was looking at the team that finished 2nd in 2008-09. Reina, Carragher, Kuyt and Gerrard are the only regulars of that era that are still around (Skrtel, Agger & Lucas hadn't really established themselves, while Aurelio was in and out of the team due to injury). Carragher and Kuyt have been phased out recently. The experience of the old heads we once had is not longer there to the same extent.
