As others have pointed out, he plays well against the better sides and rubbish when teams defend in numbers. He doesn't have the guile when played out wide to break teams down. Saying that, his hatrick was the result of good poaching in front of goal, nothing more, nothing less.

I really dont understand why it has to be so black & white for some. Kuyt (& to a lesser extent Maxi) is a good player to have in the squad. Yes, ideally we need to upgrade the wide attacking positions but a title- challenging squad needs quality in depth & different tactical options. Kuyt can offer this for a couple of years yet.

Scum often play Park in big games where he's enjoyed success (sadly) & Kuyt is a much better player. Too long have we been trading in decent players in an attempt to upgrade. Kuyt should be safe- even if his role is diminished- there's plenty of others than need upgrading 1st.

Would be happy to see kuyt as one of the 4 strikers that we can rotate when needed. He is a big match player and proved yesterday he has a striker's instinct. We all think that Carroll is an automatic starter but if he loses form / gets injured, Kuyt is a more than adequate replacement

With a quality left winger I think we could see Kuyt back to his devastating best next season when playing out right. His best season by far is when Riera was playing as we had a much better shape and he had the time and space to get into the box. With Carroll winning every ball and Kuyt and Suarez feeding off the scraps, I can see a lot of goals next year. Hopefully that wee lay off from Carroll yesterday is just the start of a good understanding and a sign of things to come.
