they should, shaggy. censorship for these words is stupid. censor racism, sexism, hate speech toward religious sects, whatever. but throwing your rag every time someone says ****? we've got better things to do with our time, and i include doing absolutely nothing in that.

Well that's a different debate entirely IMO, and I agree. Don't see the big deal about swearing, but as it is it's frowned upon - rightly or wrongly - and screaming **** directly into a TV camera, live on television at lunchtime, is gonna get you in trouble no matter how you dress it up.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postthey should, shaggy. censorship for these words is stupid. censor racism, sexism, hate speech toward religious sects, whatever. but throwing your rag every time someone says ****? we've got better things to do with our time, and i include doing absolutely nothing in that.

Key point for FA: Rooney wasn't merely swearing (as happens), he AIMED his swearing at camera and, indirectly, the TV audienceThanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Nothing better than my 5 year old copying it for 2 hours afterwards...Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postthey should, shaggy. censorship for these words is stupid. censor racism, sexism, hate speech toward religious sects, whatever. but throwing your rag every time someone says ****? we've got better things to do with our time, and i include doing absolutely nothing in that.

make up your mind. do you agree, or is allowing pundits to swear ridiculous? part of the massive charm of watching matches in danish is that the languages gets a bit industrial now and then, and nobody ever complains. because it's immensely enjoyable.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWell that's a different debate entirely IMO, and I agree. My mind is made up, it's clear. Allowing pundits and commentators to swear is a ridiculous notion in the current climate. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they did - it'd be funny - but let's face it it's never, ever going to happen. A completely ridiculous notion, which is why Rooney swearing right into a camera at lunchtime is not going to be tolerated.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postmake up your mind. do you agree, or is allowing pundits to swear ridiculous? part of the massive charm of watching matches in danish is that the languages gets a bit industrial now and then, and nobody ever complains. because it's immensely enjoyable. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Lol as Oliver Holt said in his colomn today, that comparison is facile.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostDrogba got a 6 game ban for essentially the same thing (albeit from UEFA, not the FA)
Drogba like Rooney swore into a tv camera but he also confronted the referee, jabbed his finger at his face, shouted abuse, and had to be restrained by security guards.
Slightly different circumstances
I honestly think it's ridiculous Rooney's got a two game ban for this...a letter through the post warning him about his future conduct would have sufficed imo.
Personally i find Rooney an arrogant, load mouthed **** but god i'd love to see a few players with his arrogance and swagger playing for Liverpool.

But that is a different debate. You're arguing over whether it's right to frown on swearing, whether it should be unacceptable - not whether Rooney's punishment is right or wrong. I don't particularly understand why certain strings of letters are socially unacceptable in certain social scenarios. But they are whether I like it or not, and in light of this Rooney is rightly being punished. You can't do it.
As for generally being allowed to swear all over the TV at any time of day, I accept my personal, easy-going opinion on swearing is not necessarily right and so the idea of of Jamie Redknapp, Alan Hansen and all the others liberally effing and blinding on telly is, I accept, a ridiculous one. Just because I'd enjoy it and wouldn't find it a problem doesn't mean millions of others wouldn't.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Like I said I agree a ban is OTT, a fine would suffice, but I couldn't give a flying ****, it's brilliant and no matter how you dress it up what Rooney did was wrong. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

well, it is and it isn't. if we agree that finding swearing unnacceptable is passe and stupid, then punishing wazza for swearing on tv is the wrong thing to do, whatever we might feel about enjoying it when he gets punished for anything. the way to bring society forward is to seize on these opportunities to show people how ridiculous and many cases how hypocritical they're being by holding fast to these stodgy ideas.Originally posted by Shaggy View Post

i think he shouldn't be punished, and i think that because i think punishing people for swearing is wrong. qed.
