I remember laughing at that as well but after reading that its pretty pathetic & Le Saux didnt deserve that. He comes across as being a decent guy who did get bullied because of his background/character. Thats unacceptable.

I don't think what Fowler said was particularly cuntish or vicious, it's the ribbing from his team mates in the early days that I don't like at all. Not needed.

You're using homosexuality as an insult, you're implying homosexuality is a bad thing to be ashamed of, so yes, it is definitely homophobic behavior.

Ok, so if said friend who accidently did/said something a bit feminine, and i.....in jest implied my mate was a 'big girl' instead of gay, that would be ok ? Or is it wrong to imply being a girl is a bad thing too ?

Though I don't approve of mocking anybody other than mancs, I do think there is some distinction between mocking for things within someone's control such as their attire/beliefs/choice of football team, and things that are innate, such as race or gender. Now whether trannies, or even homosexuality fits neatly into one of these categories is another matter.

I think that a this is a big problem in football; that the game as a whole is in the dark ages when it comes to homosexuality, hence why there are very few (probably no) high profile openly gay footballers. You only have to look at the reactions of fans to rumours of Ashley Cole or Sol Campbell being gay.

But it's not just the fans, in 2002 Scolari basically said he would have thrown a player out of the team if he found out he was gay.

Incidents like this show how difficult it would be for a player to be openly gay, and highlight the homophobic nature of the game.
