However, now Arsenal has entered the picture, it complicates things as Mata is a known admirer of Arsenal and Wenger's philosophy. No idea who Mata will choose, but both teams have factors going for them, Liverpool's strong selling point is the new "project" and its Latin contingent -- Arsenal of course is that it can offer CL play and his own personal leanings, although Cesc leaving could also be a factor.

Losing Fabregas and/or Nasri could possibly work in their favour as Wenger building his team round Mata might be a bit more appealing that joining us and our 50 midfielders to play second fiddle to Suarez.

i do think though - that Arsenal, will go all guns blazing for Hazard and Mata as replacements for Nasri and Fabregas - annoyingly they also need a left back like us....So we will both be fighting it out there too...

if we could get enrique and then one of mata or hazard - i'd be estatic...it'd immensly strengthen us whilst make it more difficult for arsenal

What 'Arsene's philosophy'? The one where financial acumen is better than buying half decent defenders and a goalie so you can win something?

The question Mata needs to be asking himself is WHY are Nasri and Fabregas leaving this wonderful philosophy? Both aren't going to Barcelona.

You'd have to imagine he'll talk to his mates in the Spain squad about the clubs, if Fabregas is off I very much doubt he'd want to go there, especially if they are losing other first team players too weakening their squad. On the other hand we have Pepe who has comitted his future to us and we are looking to strengthen our squad by bringing in good players and selling off deadwood. Arsenal may say they would be able to build a side around him, but surely he'd look at Fabregas and see that as his future in a few years. We are spending big to bring in talented young players to be successful Suarez, Carroll and Henderson equating to ~£75m worth of transfer spending in the last 6 months, that has to suggest we're moving forward

Of course it would and hopefully will, but it just depends on how he see's it and how Wenger sells his ideas to him.

I feel great saying this, but the way things are looking it will be much harder to get into our starting 11 next year than Arsenal's.

Signing Downing at least means we will have genune width and with Mata another genuine talent

I think we can both offer him attractive football now to be fair, although he's probably more aware of the attacking football Arsenal play than ourselves.
