I think this year is all about grabbing a place in the top four. And also, who are we to assume that we haven't tried to sign Mata, Aguero and / or Turan? This isn't Football manager and there's so many factors to take into consideration.

If we did somehow sign Mata, we'd probably have to cull half of our midfielders / forwards. El Zhar, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Pacheco, Cole, Kuyt, Ngog, Spearing... still leaves Lucas, Adam, Maxi, Henderson, Downing, Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll...
