He may be class but he just doesn't fit the role we needed filling - he's not a wide man who's going to get crosses into the box. We've already got Suarez/Gerrard/Adam for playmaking purposes. We have NOBODY who can do a job like Downing will do for us.

I am not so sure we need a "typical" winger but imo we need someone who is versatile, can play as a wide man, can definitely make things for us and be a difference maker, which is what Mata could do and that is where the attraction comes from.

I'm not saying that Downing is poor signing but imo there is a place for both of them and it would be nice to know that we are actually interested.

That's just it for me. I have seen plenty of him to think that he has talent and skill level be a very good player. Will that ever happen or not who knows but he looks like a player I'd gladly take our chances on.

Specially some ****ty no marks like spurs. My thoughts are he will go to Arse if and when Nasri/Fabregas goes or he will stay at Valencia for a season till we buy him next year

I have seen him play quite alot for Valencia, U21 Spain and some of his appearances for the senior side, so i feel i can make a proper judgement on him, and IMO he has potential to be a top class footballer.

I saw 263 minutes of him in the recent U21 tournament and have religiously watched YouTube footage of him. Tie this in with my LFC insider knowledge that we haven't even bothered picking up the phone to speak to Valencia and I feel I am in a position to state that Mata would indeed transform us to title challengers for the next seven years.

It is common knowledge that Kenny believed Downing was the messiah; Mata is nothing but a very naughty boy. Hence our recent acquisition.
