Clubs like Man City and Chelsea and Real Madrid can all offer that PLUS massive wages. But look at who Man City managed to attract when they could only offer the latter? Jo, Santa Cruz, Milner, Adebayor...

EDIT: B*ll*cks. Only just noticed your final sentence.

I just did the same, had to delete and re-write a post where i responded to the 'beginning' of your post without reading the bit where you said..."only just noticed your last sentence"

    It's age i tell ya.

When you need a left back, defensive midfielder, 2 wide players, a creative midfielder and a centreback (and possibly a 3rd choice striker) and you need them now then you're never really going to be in the race for a £40 million pound forward. To much needs done and even an £80million budget is cutting it fine
      Agreed

I'd love us to be able to spunk this type of money on one player but there are other factors all of which have been mentioned

I think that we can afford to pay £40m+ for ONE player every season and still have enough money to strengthen other positions.

We have an Academy now that is producing excellent talents. We don't need to sign quantity now because of that.

You are allowed to make a loss every year the next few years. Less and less losses but still losses.

If we sell the deadwood then we should have around £80m-£90m to spend.

Who do you class as deadwood and how much do you think they'd each fetch?

I think we'd do well to get £20m for the deadwood, and with £40m-£50m to spend added, an overall budget of about £65m or so sounds more realistic.

            Time will tell wont it

Even if the rules werent in place I still think Arns demands are unrealistic

The sort of investment asked is unrealistic when we have other areas of the squad that need addressing

Personally there is a 0000.1% change of Aguero joining us.
This is the type of transfer that internet forums were made for.

Of course, but i have zero faith in Uefa to enforce these rules properly.

Arn, if this summers transfer policy is the way we anticipate it being I think your logic will be sound moving forward from next sumer onwards. Unfortunately we have too many holes to patch up this time round (and when I say too many holes I mean half the boat).
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

£40m-£50m of a budget really isn't all much when you consider we need 5-6 top quality additions to the first team.

We possibly could in the future but not now Arn

We need a leftback, a centrehalf, at least 1 central midfielder and at least one wide player

They all have to be experienced / quality players

We cant afford to promote from within just yet - certainly not for those positions

The youth players will come in on the periphery of the squad and will possible push through as cover but to talk about them as integral squad members is a tad early with the exception of Kelly, Spearing, Flanagan & maybe Robinson who I can all see as getting some games next season

Long term what you hve suggested will no doubt be a goal of FSG's but I think you are jumping the gun on a lot of things

I think that you are allowed to make a £25m loss the first year so we can start with that.

Say that we will make a £35m profit and we have £60m that we can spend plus the money from the players we sell.

                        Aquilani £15m.
                        Poulsen £2m.
                        Konchesky £2m.
                        Cole £5m.
                        Ngog £3m.
                        Jovanovic £3m.

                        £30m right there.

That means that we should have a max transfer budget of £90m.

I reckon that wont be too far from the truth myself

If that is our budget then clearly Aguero is out of the question

I can see us maybe stretching the budget here and there but not to the extent we'd sign Aguero in addition to those positions we have already targetted

You are allowed a €45 million loss over the first 3 years (from 2012-2015)

Doubt we'll get £15 million for Aquilani

£10-11 million tops. Sadly, that's the truth. Poor poor buy in the first place with his well known injury record.

And we certainly won't get £5m for Joe Cole!

I reckon about £20m-£25m for that lot.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
