He'll be 29 in September and certainly doesn't fit FSG model of buying young and talented players with a great potential.

That said I can see some attraction as him and Carroll seems to be linking very nicely with Newcastle but personally I'd hope we stay away.

Even taking aside his character, he's a decent midfielder without being that good. He's not in the England side, justifiably so, and it's not because of his character.

I think Joey Barton is a terrific player, but he's a cunt - and I don't think he'd be welcomed by Liverpool supporters. Isn't he banned from the area anyway? Could be a bit of a problem for home matches! :-)

No matter how much you rate him, he will damage team morale, and on that basis whatever he adds in playing ability he would take away from the team
