Nobody knows the circumstances surrounding any of the alleged incidents associated with Joey Barton. I don't think he's some sort of Saint, but who is? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I can't believe there are people here who have never had scrapes or been involved in regrettable situations where things spiralled out of control.

I would judge a footballer by his ability rather than his background or his upbringing. Nobody is perfect, apart from Wavy Davy and Craig H obviously.

Gerrard was a nightmare in his youth..

I worked in a sports shop in St Helens and he was often barred from the centre along with his pot smokin mates...

He did come in a few times acting the prick, kickin footballs around the store..Had to get the security guy to move him out of the store..Typical young scally but always surrounded by a few outcasts..

He did get a little too big for his boots at one point and he's been involved in his own scandals along the way..

I've worked in a few places in town and the lad isn't as clean as most people would believe..

I'm not trying to paint a slur here in anyway but don't just judge Barton on what you read/hear..

I've heard of Gerrard's antics, could be true could be false. He was in some tough situations and was in the wrong crowd at times.

Let's for arguments sake say the rumours are true - all of them. He's s cock end, blah, blah etc.

However, he came through our academy. He has always been our player. It is part of the clubs duty to look out for their own. They are partly responsible for making sure he stays on the right course.

So you back the lad, and you do your best to help him come out the dark and into the light. Now we can debate his past - but his present and future I have no cause for concern. For me he's learned.

Joey Barton on the otherhand, is not our player. If you have a player and he's z bit of a prick you assist him. But you don't go and buy one who is already a prick.

He may have learnt his lesson - but the same thing has been said before and he's re-offended. Why take the risk?

Because he's a bloody good player you say? Well I agree. If not for off field problems he'd have at least forty England caps to his name. And he wouldn't have been playing at middle class teams like Newcastle.

The situation he's in has been his own doing and he can cry all he likes. He doesn't deserve to wear the red shirt.

Don't give me the crap about how great he is. I rate him as high as anyone I know or read. Players of his quality are not one of a kind though -another thing different with he and Gerrard.

If we need someone of his ability we could buy one without ghe baggage. More expensive? Yes, but it'd be worth it.

No comparison, and that's before you even consider the gulf in quality and the rest of Barton's problems.

Oh come off it mate. I've seen the apparent CCTV footage, I know what the court said but at the same time I'm not naive. Suppose he wasn't throwing those punches out of self-defence. Do you really think that compares with the kind of prick who stubs a cigar out in a teammate's eye, batters someone senseless with 20 punches, and decks another teammate?

Worst case scenario, Gerrard is a great player who got off a charge following an idiotic scuffle in Southport.

Best case scenario, Barton is a good player, but an alcoholic with behavioural difficulties and serial violent crime convictions.
