    It can't be true. Benitez just made a terrible decision, presumably because he doesn't know what he's doing and has a terrible eye for players. It's the only possible explanation.

    If there was any truth in the tale you're telling, it would have emerged by now because British football journalists are known for their dedication and professional ethi...hang on, that's not right...erm...

        It just gets me how awful most football journalists are. They're not journalists at all. It's like what the bloke in the Dragon Tattoo books says about financial journalists - there's no separation between them and the business they're supposed to be reporting on.

        It's a disgrace, etc.

          Had enough of this ****. Just get rid of him, he doesn't want to be in Liverpool, the way he's treated Lfc has been a total disgrace and yet (as with J Cole) we seem to be bowing to their requests every time.

                The italians have always been canny negotiators but the level of pisstaking that we have experienced over aquilani is beyond belief.

                It must be common knowledge over there that were desperate to get shot of him.

                    Not sure I'd agree with this. A few years ago money was being chucked around like confetti in Serie A.

                    Times have clearly got tougher in Italy whilst they can see the prem is awash with cash.

                    No doubt the fact that we've been seen to be taken for mugs on numerous occasions in the last few years hasn't helped either.
