He will be playing in a system he is familiar with, under a manager he is familiar with and comfortable playing for. There is no reason why he can't be a success. The only thing stopping him is the weight of expectation at Liverpool and I'm sure if Rodgers didn't think he had the mentality to make a step up to this level then he wouldn't sign him.

That pretty much goes without saying though doesn't it. We signed Joe Cole on a free and that deal is still criticised (rightly so) because of the huge wages he's on. It's the same for any player really.

How much we spend on Allen will be judged on how well he actually does

Henderson, Downing & Carrolls fees dont really come into it so I dont see the point in even bringing them up and to suggest that spending £15 million on Allen will be instantly forgotten because of those 3 players fees is crap

Colin, dont know much about these lads but from a little read on wiki;
vargas is a left sided attacking full back/winger. not a prolic scorer, though.
jovetic sounds an ok striker.
