And still their fans swear blind that the officials are against them and favour Liverpool.

It's a weak penalty but the defenders leg catches Grealish's left leg which then hits his standing leg. The sort of thing you'd do at school by knocking one leg onto the other.
Weak but there's contact and its not the dive some are making out.Comment

There's contact because Grealish initiated it.Comment

Not for me, the two players are crossing paths. I know what initiating contact looks like and I'm not sure that's it.
Don't give a **** either way tbf but some of the reactions to that pen for 3-0 are embarrassing and just another little reason to stop watching the sport.Comment

Lol, as soon as he gets in front of the player he suddenly starts leaving his trailing leg in the air looking for contact.
Ken called it bang on.Comment

I see it the same as you do. Clumsy but a pen.Comment

Contact does not mean a pen. Pgmol stated that they were going to be clamping down on incidents where the attacker initiates or exaggerates contact.
This is cleary a case of both, so by their own rules there is no way this should have been a pen.
“It’s not sufficient just to say ‘yes, there was contact’,” Riley, the general manager of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) said.
“Contact on its own is only part of what referees should look for. If you’ve got clear contact that has a consequence, then that’s what you have got to penalise.”
While the change of emphasis should mean that attackers who initiate or exaggerate contact will not be rewarded, referees will be on the lookout to award penalties where there is clear, meaningful contact but players stay on their feet.Last edited by rudedog; 13-02-23, 11:11 AM.Comment
