A little disappointed we didn't get Sturridge in exchange but I doubt we could have sold Meireles that late if we asked for that. Good business though, good money for a player of his age and with Gerrard coming back there wasn't much room for him. The midfield is far more manageable now and its good for the youngsters to know there could still opportunities there for them if they want it..

He had a good few games, but I don't think he was all that great really. We were all a bit flabbergasted by the PFA thing, and I remember Roy not knowing what to do with him as well. There was an interview he gave saying he didn't know that much about him and would have to figure out his best position - then proceeded to play this central midfielder on the wings and make him look completely out of place. I think we have plenty of options so as not to miss him. ****'s way to get out of the club, but maybe he felt hard done by?

I have never really rated him, even when he was on that little scoring run last season (the only one in his entire career incidentally), he was still going missing for great chunks of games.

Quite happy with the deal to be honest as i'm more than confident that his wages and the fee we received will be put towards someone a fair bit better.

There was twitter gossip that Raul handed in a tranfer request monday morning. I don't get this whole 1 hour before hand. Just like Torres. He And His agent knew what they where doing, he probably knew and kinda told him to force it through if he wanted to go.

The Speed of the transfer alone suggests that all parties concerned knew what was happening. Bottom Line if Modric would have signed for Chelsea and I don't think Raul would have 1. Handed in the request
2. Moved to Chavs.

He was 2nd choice under kenny. 2nd choise target for chavs and mostly likely will be sat on the bench next to torres for most games

We won't get that from Shelvey or wee jay or anyone else off the bench either IMO. We lost a fair amount of flair with both aqua and raul going. I hope we don't live to regret it !

im more than happy to see maxi play that role. on the wings we have downing, kyut, bellamy, henderson to do that role so with aqua and raul now gone a spot is open in the centre to be gerards understudy so to speak.

i think it was a case of us accepting he could go if we got a suitable replacement - bellamy.

so once bellamy was confirmed and raul's deal went through, we released the news and he was gone.

It will be interesting to see where and how often he'll play.

I can see him being used either in January or next summer as a make-weight to bring in Avalaro Pereira from Porto the deal that fell through at the last moment this transfer window (bar some spectacular performances).
