Moyes and Fellaini set for Everton exit in crushing double blow at Goodison
Everton are set to be dealt a double end-of-season blow as their fading Champions League hopes mean manager David Moyes and star midfielder Marouane Fellaini are likely to depart Goodison Park.
The 1-0 defeat by Sunderland left Everton four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who have two games in hand, and prompted their long-standing manager to admit the club have almost no chance of Champions League qualification.
Speculation has been raging for months that Moyes will leave Goodison at the end of the season following 11 years on Merseyside, and with the Mail on Sunday today able to reveal a £23million escape clause in Fellaini’s contract, it could be a bleak summer for Everton.
Moyes said: ‘We probably didn’t deserve to lose the game but we didn’t play well enough to win it. I don’t think now we can make the Champions League.’
While Moyes will consider his options, Fellaini is ready to deliver a potentially damaging blow to Everton’s increasingly thin hopes of hanging on to their manager by triggering the escape clause in his contract.
There appears nothing the club can do to stop Fellaini leaving, despite the 25-year-old Belgium midfielder’s contract running until 2016.
The revelation that his five-year deal, signed in 2011, has the escape clause is bound to fire up the battle for his signature this summer.
The only possible preventative scenario would be the fact that to invoke the loophole, the buying club must have qualified for next season’s Champions League.
It means that if Everton fail to finish fourth, Chelsea will lead Europe’s top clubs in the chase for what would be one of the bargains of the summer.
His transfer could boil down to a game of rich man’s Russian roulette, with three clubs backed by billionaire Russian owners battling for the talented midfielder.
Anzhi Makhachkala and Zenit St Petersburg will attempt to snap Fellaini from under the noses of Chelsea, who have been chasing the player all season.
With England full-back Leighton Baines also the subject of transfer speculation, changes to the playing squad will be a major factor in Moyes deciding whether to stay.
The Scot insists he will only make a final decision at the end of the season but in recent weeks he has been linked with the jobs at Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as several leading Bundesliga clubs.

This is what I don't get either.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostWhere is Moyes going to go? Everton are the 8th highest earners, can he do better with available jobs, the only confirmed one is Chelsea after all.
Chelsea job is available, but I can't see him getting that, City could be looking for a new manager, but I'd be amazed if they took him. I know he was mentioned as a replacement for Ferguson at Man Utd but I never took that seriously. That's all the top jobs in England that are/could be available. Everything else likely to come up is a step down, and no big European clubs would take him IMO, so I have no idea where he'll end up.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's been linked with Schalke or a move to Germany in general, Wolfsberg or someone maybe.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThis is what I don't get either.

I can't see him managing outside of the UK for some reason, maybe I'm wrong though, I guess managing abroad is the only way he'd get to manage a top club.Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostHe's been linked with Schalke or a move to Germany in general, Wolfsberg or someone maybe. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What's the state of the SPL at the moment? Is there a chance he could end up there?"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

I think he's already said he fancies managing in Germany. I can definitely see him taking a job over there.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI can't see him managing outside of the UK for some reason, maybe I'm wrong though, I guess managing abroad is the only way he'd get to manage a top club.

What's the situation at Malaga? They got some sort of punishment I know that, but have they been banned from Europe? If Moyes is moving for football reasons then it might not make sense. However the lifestyle and financial improvements might be enough.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostMalaga have been in contact with Moyes according to Balague, as have Schalke (this was on Revista last week).Vive la France
