I think there's a fair bit to say about an elderly, white manager telling a black member of his staff that he has to show public support for a particular charitable campaign with a political end..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Coming back to the terry punishment, if he'd got 8 games there would have been a rent a quote complaining about him still being Chelsea captain. If he'd got stripped of the captaincy there would have been someone making headlines for saying he should have been sacked. If he'd been sacked by Chelsea the condemnation would have come when he signed for someone else. Its all become such a self-perpetuating circus. What Rio Ferdinand, Jason Roberts or Alex Ferguson thinks about the performance of the kick it out campaign makes no difference at all to whether there are racists and racist incidents in the game imo.Last edited by Kenneth; 21-10-12, 06:49 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Today, tomorrow, when there is an incident to talk about, whenever if its given suitable perspective. Jason Roberts not wearing a tshirt in the warm up to a Reading game just doesn't warrant being the top sports story imo.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostWhen will it be ok for race issues in football to be discussed again without it just being 'every arsehole has an opinion'?Last edited by Kenneth; 21-10-12, 06:57 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I really do not get where you're coming from on this, Kenneth. You're acting as if the Terry/Suarez incidents were the only incidents of racism in the past year, whereas the truth is that not a week seems to go by without some new racist incident stinking up the footballing world. So long as there are new incidents those two famous incidents are bound to be regularly mentioned. Players and people in the world at large are constantly being racially abused, to want people to not keep going on about it just because you're bored with the discussions is borderline offensive. Quite frankly your feelings on the matter are irrelevant. If you're so bored with it all then how about you just stay out of this thread?

I find it interesting that there has been a great deal of chat about what I believe are isolated racially motivated incidents on the pitch which are generally unrepresentative of what goes on on most pitches on a Sat/Sun afternoon (at least I think that's the case, maybe I lead a sheltered life in that respect), and possibly even more chat about slightly irrelevant stuff around that such as tshirts and handshakes, when what I would perceive as the far greater question of institutional racism surrounding the English football establishment, in the boardrooms, the press boxes and at management & coaching level, gets far less attention.
That's not to say people shouldn't talk about the other stuff, of course they should and perhaps not has much has changed as it had appeared, but personally that's what I think the racism in football debate should be about if we're to see true progress beyond what has (mostly) been achieved in the last 20 years or so.Last edited by MrMichael; 21-10-12, 08:08 PM.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

I'm not talking about the world at large, I'm talking about football in England as I said. And I don't equate thinking that the topic is being given undue precedence in the fooball related mass media with simple boredom.Originally posted by scully View PostI really do not get where you're coming from on this, Kenneth. Racist abuse or sexual assault; which is the biggest problem amongst footballers in England. Over the past few years I can think of far more cases of the latter. Many times more. Where is the kick it out campaign for that? Where is the blanket coverage of each incident with speils of copy linking them all to one overriding narrative? Where are the tshirts, the football charities, the awareness campaigns? No, lets not worry about the victims of actual serious crime involving footballers and put all of our efforts into stopping players calling each other names.Last edited by Kenneth; 22-10-12, 07:40 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
