The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has been handed a police file concerning allegations England and Chelsea captain John Terry made racist comments.

Terry has been accused of using racist language towards Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand, during Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road on 23 October.

The CPS received the file late on Wednesday night and will now decide whether to bring a prosecution.

If Terry is found guilty, he could lose the England captaincy.

Terry was questioned under caution by the Metropolitan Police last week.

Scotland Yard then passed a file on the matter to the CPS who will spend the next few weeks considering whether there is enough information to prosecute.

    'I'm saddened'
After the allegations were made, Terry issued a statement saying: "I've seen that there's a lot of comments on the internet with regards to some video footage of me during the game.

"I'm disappointed that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand.

"I would never say such a thing, and I'm saddened that people would think so."

The Football Association (FA) has begun its own investigation into the matter but this has been put on hold while a decision on whether he will face a criminal investigation is made.

Ferdinand has said he has "very strong" feelings on what happened but would not say anymore about it until the FA's investigation was over.

Ferdinand sent a bullet in the post

EXCLUSIVE: QPR's Ferdinand receives bullet in the post
By Paul Warburton Jan 27 2012 Add a comment

ANTON Ferdinand has been sent a bullet through the post ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup tie with Chelsea.

Chronicle/Gazette sport understands the QPR defender received the missile just a day before he faces the man who allegedly racially abused him when the two sides met in a fractious derby back on October 23.

John Terry faces a first hearing on Wednesday at Westminster Magistrates Court on a racially aggravated public order offence - even though the Chelsea and England captain strenuously denies the charge.

And Ferdinand (pic) has already been subjected to threats and abuse in the mail, while reportedly hiring security staff at a cost of £30,000 to protect both himself and his family ahead of tomorrow's midday kick-off.

Both clubs have called for calm before and during the game, and promised to stamp out the first sign of trouble either verbally or otherwise that might add to the tension, although both managers are set to name Ferdinand and Terry in their line-ups

I posted elsewhere that a journalist mate of mine thinks Terry is bang to rights with it.
Apparently Terry apologised to Ferdinand in the tunnel after the game hence the statement from Terry's camp that they had spoken and everything was cool.

It didn't really sink in with Ferdinand what had happened at the time and only when Terry apologised and the other QPR players said they heard it did he decide to anything about it.
That means Terry can't use the defence that he didn't say anything - why apologise afterwards for something he didn't do??

This mate of mine is sure Terry will get done and if so said he won't play for England again as the FA will be forced to ban him
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

You can always count on Chelsea fans to make themselves look like the biggest bunch of cunts on the planet
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

and you can 100% count on the London media that chastised LFC reporting as little as possible about it,or not at all

Hardly surprising their fans are just a bunch of pondlife cunts. They are all very much in the Terry mould

I'm pretty sure I read an interview with the tart he'd been shagging who said she received anonymous death threats after Terry learnt she was going public. This was before the media reported it.... I'll leave you to put two and two together

They cancelled the handshakes before the game so Terry couldn't be snubbed

I have to say that this is a fantastic move by the FA.

Protecting John Terry's dignity, i think we can all agree, is the main thing. And I for one am glad they did so.

That horrible man Anton Ferdinand picking on him, it's just not on.

Every club has its share of idiots. We had one in the crowd recently. They have one in this instance. You can't tar everyone with the same brush. We should know that better than anyone.
                          Oh I don't know.

This needs drilling into so many people. It's the reason why the hatred can be so easily whipped up in the first place.

I know you'll say it's only their hooligan fringe, and perhaps a lot of their newer 'glory fans' will be unaware so it's perhaps unfair to tar them all. But, it's widely known that the majority of 'proper' Chelsea fans tend to have extreme right wing views.
