Thanjk you.

sounds as though he wasn't depressed, but had mentioned suicide to his wife in previous days with whom he'd not been getting on well - that night there was an argument (minor she said) between them and she went out for a drive, she couldn't get back in the house and fell asleep in the car - the next morning when she did get in the house found him in the garage dead, possibly by accident. You don't like to speculate too much, but it seems reasonably obvious roughly why he did it (or wanted it to look like he might do it, if it was by accident).
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think I mentioned at the start of the thread that people don't commit suicide for no reason if they're happy. You're right that it looks likely he was suffering the start of a marriage breakdown, poor bugger.
If he had warned his wife that he was considering suicide then that sounds like a plea to her to change the situation, it sounds as if he wasn't in control of whatever was going on.

She said that he'd been talking about it, but dismissed it because of the children... it sounds strange that she could relax and dismiss it like that when her husband had been rationally discussing (threatening...) suicide as a viable option, but I guess it's easy to hear what you want to when it's something that's so diificult to deal with. I wish I'd talked to my Dad more about his illness, but the possibility that he might be seriously ill wasn't something I wanted to think about or could handle. I guess that unless she is able to totally blame him for what happened, then she must be feeling terrible.

I don't want to get shot down for being speculative but if your husband has threatened suicide and you then have a heated row, why would you leave him unattended for the whole night? Weren't the children meant to be in the house?

I did wonder about that myself - she's supposed to have come home and when she couldn't get in, slept in the car. In January.

I'm sure anything untoward would've come out in the inquest, but I can't imagine she'd sleep in the car without having tried to plead with him to let her in to talk about it. At that point the police or a friend should've been called, maybe they were, the media aren't providing much information about it at the moment.
