I initially thought what a waster. Having spent a several weeks with my mother this year as she fought to stay alive as long as possible before passing, and then seeing someone like Speed taking his own life and leaving behind a wife and kids, it made me angry.

Then, as you've said, depression is something very hard to understand, it doesn't matter what you have, its a severe mental illness, and its sad that he didn't get the help to see him through (if it was suicide).

    RIP.

I know what you mean, however a suicide, if undertaken efficiently, is purely a means to end an un-endurable pain. I'm sure thoughts of family, and what it will do to them, are overwhelmed by the instant emotion. It's a lose/lose situation... RIP Gary

Didn't see it myself, but from what I'm gathering he was only on Football Focus yesterday looking full of beans......

Can't you even grasp the state of mind these people are in though ?

They are not thinking logically or normally, they don't consider the thought..'oh better not do this..the kids will be down for brekkie and they'll maybe find me'.

The state of mind they are in doesn't let them consider such things at that moment in time in a logical or considered way.

It's certainly, not imo anyway, a case of someone running away and leaving the family to deal with it, not at all, the bloke still did the school run ffs, he cared for his family.

Was thinking about that myself. I don't know that there is anyone who would have a bad word to say against him, and he is regarded as one of the nicest people you could meet.

He's done this at home, so it makes you wonder if his wife and kids were also at home, and if so how could you possibly do this knowing that one of those 3 are likely to find you. It just doesn't add up, but like as already been said on here, depression is an evil condition, indetectable in some instances.

9 years ago today he was playing for us in the Champions League against Inter Milan at St James Park. Totally unbelievable.

                        I'm totally shocked.

Deepest thoughts for his family and close friends.

                        RIP Speedo - TOON LEGEND.

Jemaine: Lisa? Bret: She's in Delta Force. She's been deployed to Fallujah. Jemaine: But she works in the croissant shop. Bret: Yeah well, she's got two jobs. She's a pastry chef and a sniper.

****ing hell, I just saw it. Absolutely shocking!

I had 2 mates commit suicide, one hanged himself, his flatmate found him, aged 23 and my other very good mate went out with a load of mates in London and on his way home at like 5am he just walked into a train tunnel in London and that was the end of him, 25 years old Not to mention my other true soulbrother friend who got ousted by his family, became a bum and a alcoholic (and he hated alcohol) and died of a heart attack, alone in some ****ed up bum's room aged 26 :[

It's a real tragedy with Gary Speed, real tragedy. Thoughts go out to his family, he had so much more to give, shocking news, truly shocking
