As Gary Neville has said they rely on moments. Sporadic individual brilliance. They don't really have a pattern of play or a defined football philosophy.

The problem, for them, is that you cant always rely on magic individual moments, it's not sustainable long term.

As we've discussed, where they are at right now is the perfect of balance of doing well enough to keep hapless Ole in a job and not doing so well that it actually worries us.

I think the individual moments thing is really their plan, the signing of Ronaldo fits with that at least. As to be honest I don't see where else he fits into a game plan. I think their tactics are give it to Ronaldo or Fernandes and they'll win the game for you. There are other more 'team oriented' players who are missing out to accommodate Ronaldo. Obviously he is a world class player and they weren't going to pass up the chance to sign him but I'm not sure he helps them develop (a team focused) style of play.

They have good players and have improved (more consistent) under Solskjaer. They're defensively strong and they are winning more games (last year - 2nd place in the Prem, Europa finalists, FA Cup Quarter-finals, EFL Cup Semi-finals... I had to check Wiki).

How have they improved?! I agree that they play more entertaining football now, than joseball, but in terms of being affective, they have not improved at all, unless you’re only comparing them to Jose’s final months when he imploded!

I know you’re only posting stats from last season, but even looking at Ole’s all time stats, Jose has a better record in every competition! I don’t see them progressing, and I don’t think they’re gonna do any better this year than they did last year (maybe they might win Europa league). This is despite Ole having hundreds of millions at his disposal!

I'm not here to defend Utd. I couldn't care any less for them. But I think you've completely missed the point. The chat was about Ole remaining in charge. In the time he's been manager, they've improved year on year and (I repeat) "It's enough to give Utd fans hope and keeps him in a job."

Nah, I would instigate a couple mass brawls during my first few games in charge and get the sort of points deductions that would guarantee relegation. I would publically blame Klopp and Liverpool FC in general for havinfg snuck people in to cause the brawls.

Then I would bleat on to Sky for months about "The United way" and how the team and I are still giving our all for the fans. I would throw in stuff like "for the good of the game" and "the magic of Old Trafford"


The Manc fans would be onboard and that would get me my season in the Championship where I would have them challenge for the title down there but fail to win it, and then fail to get through the play offs.

Then as the cameras sweep around Old Trafford on that final day of the season, I would face a camera, rip open my shirt Superman style to reveal a Liverpool top on underneath and do a big Kloop style "BOOM" for the viewers. Then I would hold up six fingers, nut Gary Neville and stroll out of the ground.

I honestly just don’t know how any united fan can say he’s a success though. My United buddies talk about how they need a new manager, but ole has moved them forward, improved the team, etc… the only way they are better, is from buying in overpriced decent players. If he wasn’t an ex player and a legend at the club or whatever, they’d have turned on him long before now.

I am not sure he gets the season to be honest.

He didn't qualify from the group of the CL last season. If that were to happen again this year, then there will be serious questions. Is a manager that has had endless resources that can't get out of 2 easy enough groups ever going to realistically win the trophy?? I think we all know the answer already

They have a tough run in the league coming up. But to be honest, there might actually do well in those games. 10 men behind the ball and try to hit teams on the break. It has worked for them in recent years but it's been the lesser teams that have hit them.

However, looking at how they are playing, if they don't snap out of it soon, then some team is going to to clinical as **** and put 4, 5, 6 goals past them. If that was us or Man City - and they also dropped points against Atalanta and their CL progress is in doubt, then I reckon he could get the bullet.

They should have sacked him a year ago when Tuchel was available. People like Conte and Zidane will be mentioned soon......

Nah, Ole's safe and he seems to have good man management skills as there hasn't been a peep of player dis-satisfaction with him on that front as well as his ability when they're on a bad run to turn results around just at the right time to save himself and then go on a good run for a while before the cycle begins again.
They'll be treading water for quite a while yet with Ole in charge.
