Neville himself admits, they weren't aware of a 'philosophy' or a style of play. That they changed their approach often based on the opponent and that for the most part they just had better players. Obviously that worked for them then but I'm not sure that approach would work so well today.
During the early days of covid lots of old matches were played and I watched one of their supposedly great wins against Juventus in 99.
Some of the ball giveaways from their side was just nonsensical, Neville in particular kept trying to hit 50 yard passes to Andy Cole eith outcome almost always being turning over possession to the juve defender.
Jurgen or Pep would blow a gasket if they saw their RB doing that now.
