I actually think Amorim speaks really well to the media. How those messages are interpreted by his team is something different. This is a decent take by Goldbridge (increasingly one of the most balanced pundits out there!!!)

Surely a good coach would back himself to coach the squad the team out of the current predicament?

Look at the Liverpool team Klopp took over. I'd argue that om paper that squad was worse than United's current squad.

As we know Klopp worked minor miracles that season getting us to two cup finals and showing us that he was the man to take the club forward.

Perhaps unfair to compare Amorim to Klopp but the situations they inherited aren't all that different

A good manager will make the best of what is available.
For amorim to stick to whatever system suits him and his ideal style then that's just being an egotistical bellend.
Maybe he's realised the place stinks of dead rats and he's looking for an easy exit, fat pay cheque and a quick return to the sun.

The appointment of Slot instead of Amorim appears to have been a sliding door moment for us.

Kind of respect what he is doing, he knows he doesn't have the players for the system, but he's going to play it anyway so that the players he does want to keep learn the intracacies, and he can soon weed out the players that just can't play in a formation that he wants. He must have some assurances and backing. Does that make them a worry for the future, or is a 5-at-the-back formation a relic from another era and United risk being left further behind?

Its going to take several windows to put right - They are on the cusp of PSR at the moment so unless they can shift Rashford this month they aren't going to be doing any business to have any kind of impact. It made no sense of them getting rid of Dan Ashworth, absolutely none. Whilst I can see a massive clear out in the summer, and I'd expect a lot of youth players to go as well, they still have big money players thet won't be able to shift easily. Casimero's runs to 2026 with an option of an extra year (unlikely) but he's earning £18m a year.

TBH - I think he would have been good as both Robertson and Trent could operate in 5-3-2 as both are attach minded. Also Slot had a pre-season.

I think he speaks really well. I’ve got no clue about him as a coach

I’d say that it’s accurately and we’ve said this before a total poisoned chalice career wise. And the state of their squad is further exacerbated by egos and massive salaries. I don’t think anyone can untangle that mess, all I’ll say is I think the tactic Amorim is taking is a smart one for self preservation.

The manager wants to play a different system to what has been played before, but also the problem is many of the players, he has come out and said what he's said because they need to make serious changes and sadly from our point of view he probably has the backing to do that. There is going to be a big overhaul of their squad in the summer and he is preparing everyone for that, as amusing as it might be to hear sadly it is exactly what they need. Whether he will get the support or backing from the owners that he needs to fix it is a different question but having found/acknowledged the problem is the first step for him.

Well, they are in a pickle due to PSR. And if they miss out on Europe, that pickle becomes a jar of pickles.

Appointing him just looks like yet another knee jerk decision looking for the in vogue manager as opposed to the right manager strategically.

Every time I see him squatting on the sidelines he looks like he’s thinking what the **** did I do! Should have either said I’ll come in the summer or I won’t take the job. I know it was a take it leave it but if he really was their first choice they would have let him wait.

One of my neighbours is a proper man utd fan and we have some good chats about it all. I feel sorry for him but not for the state they are in, his kid has decided to support city and he had to buy him a load of city stuff at Christmas. His family going back all support man utd.
