Potentially, I'd imagine though if he does go there we'll see Rooney there in the Summer.

Brazilian defender Dante"What I can say is that my agents are the ones who handle deals and talks," he told Fox Sports Brasil.

"I am happy at Bayern and the most important is to keep working, I am happy with Man Utd's interest, let's see what happens in the future."

"I follow the Premier League and although Man Utd are in a bad moment, I appreciate the interest."

He concluded: "We have to wait until 31 January, a lot can happen in the future."

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                  Can United even afford Mata?

Going by the numerous links from our end (with Mata historically), I think it's fair to say that Mata's agent is pretty decent at getting his name out amongst the media. I'm hoping it's just a case of forcing Chelsea's hand to allow Mata to return to Spain.

Real Madrid have no interest whatsoever in Wayne Rooney. Zero interest.

But if it's about going back to spain, who other than Barca and Real can offer close to £30-40million...Chelsea will want to make a profit what with FFP in effect,so if it's abroad then i reckon the two filthy rich french clubs if Real and Barca are not interested

i'd be a bit gutted if they signed mata - he's a top class player and he'll give their whole club a boost - a bit like everyone laughing at Arsenal at the beginning of the season and then signing Ozil

i am hoping it's chelsea just taking the piss/playing games - drag out the transfer, making united focus all the efforts on this signing then come Jan 31st Chelsea pulling the plug.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Saw someone mention elsewhere that UTD still have city and arsenal to play. With Mata joining them theres a chance they could beat them and Chelsea leapfrog up to first place. Makes some sense.

Mata would certainly give them more quality than they've currently got and a signing like that will appease the fans in the short term.

i'd really like us to be in for him

i know he's not what we need right now (ie the dm/full back) but when/if a top quality player like that comes on the market i'd like to think that our owners could go for him.

we looking at salah for £10m - **** it, dip yer hands in yer pockets and get another £30m out

A front three of sturridge/suarez/mata - with quality cover in sterling and coutinho - that's what you need to be title challenges....

well that, another top class centre half, right back, left and a top class centre mid....
