Cry's more of financial desperation than anything else really.... How on earth could it be a good idea on footballing reasons travelling to the middle east etc. in mid season
They need to keep the money rolling in and by the sounds of it they're going to be doing it to the detriment of their football. Sounds like a brilliant idea.
A few low speed friendlies with a B squad is hardly going to kill them.
It's still travelling and distraction, and assuming the training team and Van Gaal have to be present at the very least... Possibility of injuries etc. I can't in any way see this being a good idea! Except that it of course generates income to pay for the huge increase in salary and transfer expenditure...

Their defence as it stands is decimated. Having to field even their reserve defenders is putting a risk on their first team defence as they just don't have the squad to play these kind of friendlies. That's before considering acclimatisation, travelling and the other things Darkon mentions.
They'd have been better replicating what we achieved in the mid-week downtime last season and working on pushing for fourth. But such is their gamble they have taken with their summer spending, it's Champions League or bust. Or at least, I hope it is.
Van Gaal said in the summer he wasn't happy about how focused the club was on the commercial side and that wasn't always helpful to creating a good football team so I can hardly see him being too enamoured with this idea.
Still anything with the potential to disrupt them in the league is good news.
