Is there some obscure (tax/legal) reason why long contracts for managers seem more prevalent now?

Maybe we could sell Carroll to them for £25m+. He is a Moyes type of striker.

Just got in from work and heard of the 6 year deal

I haven't had such a laugh in a long time. The only way that will top these past few days is if mark hughes gets the bitters job.

We could always say that he is born in Nigeria.

The awful, awful ending to this is that he wins the league in his first season. Which is entirely possible.

Not a chance imo. City will get stronger and Chelsea will get jose back. Moyes will struggle imo to finish 4th

It's not clear who they would benefit. The club could easily limit payoffs on termination contractually, eg to two years salary. There aren't transfer fees to be amortised so can't thin it's an accounting trick. Maybe it's purely symbolic on the clubs part.

I asked on Facebook what my United following friends thought of the appointment.

Not a single reply! Tumbleweed while they contemplate a mass suicide.
