Top 4 qualify for Champions League.

Should a side with either European competition and not qualify through their league place they will qualify at the expense of the lowest placed qualifying league club.

Therefore if 2 teams from the same league win the CL and Euopa AND both finish outside the top 4 then only 1st and 2nd from the Domestic League will qualify for CL.

In that even I assume that Europa winners are a direct swap for 4th in that they play the qualification round

So, if Liverpool won the Champions League and finished fifth in the Premiership, and Spurs win the UEFA Cup and finish sixth in the Premiership, then the top two teams would qualify for the Champions League the following season. That would be ****ing funny.

Might actually help to improve the Europa League somewhat although there is still an ungodly amount of games to go from loads of teams to lots of teams.

Absolutely, I said it earlier on today somewhere but if we concentrate on ourselves then I can't see any reason for us not to finish in the top 4.

So far we've improved on last season with a win at home to Southampton and matched 2 more results, one of them being Spurs away under new management and other than last season we'd lost 6 on the bounce there.

If we say Chelsea and City are both expected to finish ahead of us that leaves our challengers for the other 2 spots as Everton, Arsenal, United and Spurs. We're on more points that the lot of them having played trickier games IMO with Arsenal playing City next.

Great platform to built on and get confidence flowing while the new lads bed in.

Every radio station, tv news out let have been banging on about United and that bloody awful phrase Rooney used 'its a statement of intent'. Well I hope it is a statement of intent to pay everyone at United 300k a week so you go under.

Someone on the radio today was banging on about Utd paying four players in excess of 300k p/w (albeit there's some conjecture that RF is part subsidised by monaco).

My maths is ropey but surely that's works out in excess of £60m per year
