Manchester United are closing in on Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, with claims a deal is almost done.

The Mirror quote "a source close to the Germany camp" who said: "He is preparing his exit and he gave some of the players signs that his transfer is close."

Hummels this week had to deny that he had promised to join United, but this one seems to be gathering momentum all the time. At 26, Hummels is probably approaching his prime and would cost United £30-40million, which would surely be money well spent.

The perennially Premier League-linked Simon Kjaer is also said to be a target for United this summer, with the Express claiming an £11million bid is being considered for the Lille and Denmark defender.

Remember the Kjaer fella being mentioned around here a few times.

Kjaer is a huge Pool fan isn't he? Anyway he's never looked a great player specially without sufficient defensive presence around him.

Spunking 40m on Hummels could be horrible for us or a brilliant laugh. I don't think he's suited for the perm league or will need a season of Lovren form to get used to it. A whole new back line, including goalie, for them at the start of next season is only good news for us.

Kjær is a very good duel-defender. Strong, good tackler/header and hard to beat. He is however also quite poor when it comes to positioning himself and always making the right decisions. He is a bit like Skrtel and that sense I think. Not sure he is what we would need in the team right now.
