I'm not suggesting we should have spent beyond our means.

Just buy the best you can afford instead of investing in a never to happen future.
    Oh I don't know.

It might not work but i quite enjoy watching the youth here and the progress they make, Admittedly we have more tony le t's than gerrards but then its great that the club invest in youth, its good for team spirit ....not for trophies though
And if they're not good enough, they won't get games because we'll have a team of relative superstars instead of a team of Baragans.
      Oh I don't know.

I think the Academy system exists outside of the first team. Of course we may get the odd talent to come through (and there look to be a few candidates in Woodburn, Trent A-A, and Ejaria which is great.

But if the rest turn out to be £2.5 million Warnocks, then the Academy covers itself.

You then throw in a Raheem Sterling, and the Academy is a potential goldmine. By definition an Academy will have lots of players that don't make the grade, but run well it will unearth the odd gem.

Man U on the other hand sell a talented youngster for £1m and buy him back 3 years later for £90m. Thats commercial suicide in any business other than football.

It's all part of the club budget so there's a direct impact. I'd like to see some real figures for the costs of the Academy, including investment, capital, running and recruitment costs vs return on that investment. Over the past 25 years.
          Oh I don't know.

This article said £6-7m annual running costs of the academy in 2013. Call it £10m a year now just to be sure.

I'll bet the Academy has its own budget and targets.

Gonna be so, so hard to win at their place in our next league game. And not because they are any good.
