I don't understand how MOTD can have the technology to show that the ball is out but claim that VAR don't
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Possibly used some variant on Hawkeye/Goal Line Tech but VAR needs actual footage? Not sure it even needed it though. Looked well out to the naked eye. Lino has dropped a bollock not calling that. Literally wasn't looking though.

But how long did it take for MOTD to use that tech to decide...if it was less than 10secs then yes, we should use it but if it took a couple of hours and a bunch of different camera views for Hawkeye's software to decide it was out, there's not much VAR can do but go with the evidence they had. To the naked eye, it looked out, but the camera views were inconclusive.

2 fixed cameras at each corner, looking down the lines, would solve that (most of the time) instantly.

              Did it ever really start?

The worry is that they sign a competent replacement

Not sure how it works but given that Hawk-eye is used in Tennis and can give a result in a few seconds I don't see why this should take much longer, perhaps if someone knows they can enlighten me?

Hawkeye is already used to determine if the ball crosses the line for a goal.

You shouldn't need it throw ins too. That's what linesmen are for.
                      Oh I don't know.

The cameras are set up specifically for tennis and the like, whereas this hawkeye prediction would have had to have been extrapolated from tv pics and taking known points of reference. Not sure of the timescales for that, but I'd be surprised if it could be done in ample time for a match in progress?

The goal line technology is instant. The referee's watch buzzes when the ball crosses the line.

It's a much smaller space than the length of the pitch, mind.

That's what i meant when I said that the cameras are set up specifically, thus allowing hawkeye to give an instant evaluation. But there are no cameras set up looking down the touchlines, so hawkeye will have to pull data from other sources which won't be instantaneous...heck, it took them 50 years to be able to work out if the ball crossed the line in the '66 world cup!
