True, but then you'd be garanteed to only face a couple of top teams, which would make a cl place even more dubious.Originally posted by Alex View Postbut as you progress it will get harder and harder, then eventually, you will face the big teams in the latter stages.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

He didnt mean it in the literal sense, did he?Originally posted by topscorer View PostAlex said "It's too easy" and I don't think it's easy to win the FA Cup.
It's much harder to win the league but no way is it easy.
He meant, compared to having to manage 38 games to get into the CL, doing it by winning just 7 ties is 'too easy'.

Craig you are always one for jumping onto someone based on what they write and not what they mean and now you keep going to me about no one said its easy and when I point out Alex did say its easy you pull out the 'he didn't mean it literally line'.
Anyway, I don't want to have an argument about language, Alex has confirmed that he didn't mean it's easy and that's good enough for me. I thought he meant exactly what he wrote and that it's too easy to win the FA Cup.
Anyway, my other point is that Platini seemed to be saying that cup winners would only get into the play off stages but the champions will get straight into the group stages and will presumably be seeded so the much harder competition to win will give a bigger reward.
As for the chance of a non EPL team getting into the CL I think it's no more ridiculous than some of the small nation teams that currently get into the tournament but it can easily be stopped by just having a rule that you have to be in the top flight to represent your nation in European competition.
We've already had championship sides in the Europe, Birmingham just this year so it's not like it hasn't happened already.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Only one team can win the league one from 20. And only one team can win the cup - one from 96+.
If it has a champions league position as its prize, teams will put a lot more effort. The only reason people see them as easier is because teams field weakend sides.
The league is also far more forgiving of mistakes, and luck evens out more.
I think the idea is great, not least because we may get into the damn thing. If we dont soon, we will stuggle to compete. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

The reason the FA Cup is easier is because you have 6 games (as a PL club), and it's very much a luck of the draw as to how difficult a run you get. Look at the teams that made the semis this year and the teams they played:
Liverpool: Oldham, Man Utd, Brighton, Stoke, Everton
Everton: Tamworth, Fulham, Blackpool, Sunderland, Liverpool
Chelsea: Portsmouth, QPR, Birmingham, Leicester, Tottenham
Tottenham: Cheltenham, Watford, Stevenage, Bolton, Chelsea
We're had the hardest run having played 3 premiership clubs so far, two of which were in the top 8The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
