I just find it amazing there was no sort of checks and balances in place and when we got above 20 million we should of said no way, kept the money and took the time and spent it in the summer.

What was are negotiating tactic NUFC we want 25 million LFC How about 35 million

It just makes me so mad to think if we had offered 35 for someone like Llorente or even psuhed through move for Mario Gomes , or surely we would of got Cavani for 35 million
Rumoured £20k per week at Newcastle.

I think we also went for Llorente and got told 'no' and I'm sure we enquired about Gomez, but one side only wanted a loan. I think Carroll was a good option, we just got bent over on the price and I think there was little else available.

    Still, it's all hindsight, innit.

I wouldn't have thought he would have been on much, he only really established himself when they were in the Championship.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

So if he was on say 20 and we believe the rumours we gave him a 62 K wage rise

Really would like someone to confirm what he is on

A £40K a week rise when moving from a team that has a notriously low wage structure. Yes, he had a hefty increase, but he's a striker - a position which usually pays more anyway - in a team that has a hefty wage bill in the first place.

I think it's a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things, he's not on *that* much.

Why sell a player who has showed good form towards the end of the season ? Don't ger it la.

If Rodgers cant fit Carroll into his 433 system that he likes shirley he can still use him in a plan B or to adjust a system vs other teams.

Next season we will competing on 4 fronts and we will need all the good players to contribute in our squad and AC is one of them.

Finally, 20m quid is not enought if he's to be sold. Engerlund Int'l and still 21 or so.
Wouldnt sell for less than 25-27m quid If I was Ayre.

Also our record signing. We're not going to spend £35m on a player and offer him £30k per week.

I've been firmly in Carroll's corner since he joined, yet I have no qualms with Rodgers wanting shut; Rodgers quite clearly has a vision and if Carroll is not part of that vision, fair play to Rodgers for being upfront and bold.

Personally, I'd keep him - his impact as a substitute and a 'plan b' in the FA Cup Final gave us a glimpse of what he could do, but if he wants first team football perhaps he's been looking elsewhere too.

I don't think we'll get the right side of the £20m mark, but I think what's best for all parties involved, is we get the right side of £15m and the nearer £20m the better. And hope it's not Newcastle that he goes back to.

                  And don't call me Shirley.

                    Tru fax my friend.

I'm more concerned about Downing's rumoured wages, but I guess that's for another thread.

Thank you for saving me typing it out, Led of Mudd.

I'd be happy to keep Carroll. I'll gladly raise my hands and say that he's proved me wrong - I called him a pub footballer a year ago and thought he was shocking. However I've been one of his biggest fans over the last six months and really stuck up for him.

I think he's worth keeping here to be honest. At least deserves a couple of games in the EL qualifiers.

                      Downing though...

Agree with all that. I have a feeling we are sacrificing the lad by selling him to fund other player signings which is wrong imo.
Defo doesn't hurt to keep him to at least the next transfer window to judge if he fits in the system or not.

I think it is a case of looking better than just how atrocious he played in the first half of the season, he wasn't exactly a world beater post new year and he is a striker who managed 4 goals in the league. To expect more than 15m is unrealistic, he just isn't that talented.
And he is 23 and will turn 24 this season, he ain't 21.

Have you just been let out after a 3 year stretch?

You have to factor more than what he did last season.
Ok hes 23 so plenty of time to reach his peak and he is an Int'l player for England so plenty of positives.
Also, the whole squad last season underperformed in the league so we cant single him out for managing 4 goals.
I believe he is worth more than 15m and believe BR should give him a chance to prove what he can do.
