Downings failure is because he has no bottle whatsoever, hes chickenOriginally posted by dom9 View PostHe just stands there waiting for the ball to come to him. Really static. Not many off the ball runs. Downing's failure could be in part because Carroll does not get forward in an intelligent enough manner.
As for Carroll you might be right but I think we've seen him growing as a player over the last few weeks
Look at the run he made for Suarez's goal against Everton he was positioned perfectly to either receive a pass to put it in and that created indecision in Howard who instead of closing the ball down hesitatedBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'm not sure Kenny is the best coach out there tbh. We have not seen any improvements in the players we signed.Originally posted by dom9 View PostYou might be right, but Gerrard and Torres were far superior players.
If Dalglish can't help Carroll, I'm not sure who can.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Downing has put in a lot of crosses. They just miss everybody. If people aren't there, that is not 100% his fault.Originally posted by Lecter View PostDownings failure is because he has no bottle whatsoever, hes chicken

IRO Carroll's run, I'd kinda expect that to happen more often. It is his job after all. One offs are all well and good but more is required surely?Oh I don't know.

He could always look up and aim the crosses.Originally posted by dom9 View PostDowning has put in a lot of crosses. They just miss everybody. If people aren't there, that is not 100% his fault.

I remember Beardsley saying that he thought he was the bees knees when he first came to Liverpool. Then Dalglish taught him so much more and improved him again. Subtle things like awareness, movement, giving yourself a yard in a crowded area.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI'm not sure Kenny is the best coach out there tbh. Best coach, no. Best man to help attackers change their approach for the better? Maybe.Oh I don't know.

I pretty much agree with Dom, Carroll comes across as a total amateur at times, raw in the extreme.
But I think he's being coached on his movement and positioning all the time and he's now starting to learn and show consistent improvement.
I think he will get there in the end if he keeps trying hard to learn. There's a good player in there somewhere, I just hope we get to see it before we give up on him.

Sounds about right, neither player has shown enough to take us where we want to be basically.Originally posted by dom9 View PostShall we settle on a percentage of faultedness? 90% about right?

This he rarely does.
He'd rather abdicate responsibility and cross from further up the pitch which in general are easier to defend against and harder to score from
Yes Carroll should do more but I think we have seen some signs of improvement in all departments of Carrolls gameBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
