Would anyone realistically come in for that much though? I'd be surprised if anyone paid over 10m.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostIf someone does come in for Andy for about £20-25m we should probably sell imo. We'd lose about £10m but so would they.

certainly not if we are looking to buyOriginally posted by BigChief View PostWhat English player can be bought by a prem club for £10 million nowadays? I can't think of many.
comoli [or who ever was the nominated geezer at the time] must have rode up, tied his horse to the post, dropped a bag of gold onto the table, with other bags of gold bulging out of his saddle bags, and saying, "name your price, whatever it takes"
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Mate you have completely lost it.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWould anyone realistically come in for that much though? I'd be surprised if anyone paid over 10m.
Yes he was dog crap last season, but he was an animal for Newcastle before we signed him and the improvement over the last few months has been huge, albeit not what you would expect for 35 million. Again the lad is only 22 and was a bit mentally frail when he joined, he will kick on big time.
Here is the first player i wanted to compare him with - Drogba- wiki -
'After playing in youth teams, Drogba made his professional debut aged 18 for Ligue 2 club Le Mans. A late bloomer, he signed his first professional contract aged 21; it was not until the 2002–03 season that he realized his potential, scoring 17 goals in 34 appearances in Ligue 1 for Guingamp. During the same season he made his first international appearance for Côte d'Ivoire, in September, and scored his first international goal the following February. He moved to Olympique de Marseille in 2003 for £3.3 million. His scoring success at Olympique de Marseille continued, finishing as the third highest scorer in Ligue 1 with 19 goals and helped the club to reach the 2004 UEFA Cup Final.'
And Rooney
In June 2007, Rooney was handed number 10, last worn by Ruud van Nistelrooy.[84][85] He fractured his left metatarsal in United's opening-day goalless draw against Reading on 12 August,[86] the same injury he had suffered to his right foot in 2004.[87] After being sidelined for six weeks, he returned for United's 1–0 Champions League group stage win over Roma on 2 October, scoring the match's only goal.[88] However, barely a month into his return, Rooney injured his ankle during a training session on 9 November, and missed an additional two weeks.[89] His first match back was against Fulham on 3 December, in which he played 70 minutes.[90] Rooney missed a total of ten games and finished the 2007–08 season with 18 goals (12 of them in the league),[76] as United clinched both the Premier League[91] and the Champions League, in which they defeated league rivals Chelsea[92] in the competition's first-ever all-English final.[93]
On 4 October 2008 in an away win over Blackburn Rovers, Rooney became the youngest player in league history to make 200 appearances.[94] On 14 January after scoring the only goal of the game 54 seconds into the 1–0 win over Wigan Athletic, Rooney limped off with a hamstring ailment in the eighth minute. His replacement, Carlos Tévez, was injured himself shortly after entering the game, but stayed on.[95] Rooney was out for three weeks, missing one match apiece in the League Cup and FA Cup, along with four Premier League matches.[96] On 25 April 2009, Rooney scored his final league goals of the season against Tottenham. United scored five goals in the second half ato come from 2–0 down to win 5–2. Rooney grabbed two goals, set up two and provided the assist that led to the penalty for United's first goal.[97] Rooney ended the season with 20 goals in all competitions. Once again, he managed 12 goals in the league.[76]
I have selected players that are physical and dont rely o pace thats not saying Carroll will be the next Drogba or Rooney but who is to say he wont be either!

Villa and Southamption are the only two clubs to pay a disclosed amount for players from another English club so far.Originally posted by BigChief View PostWhat English player can be bought by a prem club for £10 million nowadays? I can't think of many.
Villa payed 3m for Matt Lowton
Southampton paid 7m for Jay Rodriguez
So there is two.

Drogba and Rooney had notable positive effects on the teams play, Carroll, sadly never had that effect for us and never involved himself in the game in the manner that Drogba and Rooney did.Originally posted by marksared View PostMate you have completely lost it.

Sorry, half a good season with Newcastle is not evidence he will be good enough for us or ever work for us. I would hope for a 23 year old that their good would be more complete than his is now.

But 1 poor season (that finished with a flourish) did? With a team that had no real shape or tactical nous. He was fantastic against the Mancs in the FA cup and made a big all round contribution to the team on other occasions after thay as well.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostDrogba and Rooney had notable positive effects on the teams play, Carroll, sadly never had that effect for us and never involved himself in the game in the manner that Drogba and Rooney did.

To be fair last season was pretty dire, I dont know whether Carroll is going to make it or not with Liverpool but we have to be optimistic. (or i do anyway
)
Lucas sucked all of your energy out of you, those long nights defending him have left you burnt out.

That is potentially true, however, I think that flourish only looked good compared to just how awful he was across the season. My concerns about Carroll are his lack of technical ability and very poor movement. I think he is just too old to change these aspects of his game in any significant manner.
That is my opinion on the matter.
Lol, I was optimistic till we appointted Roy, and untill I saw our transfers last season.
