I am guessing it comes back to the point of who is instigating the transfer.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI'm not sure that is a rule set in stone
More that agents are willing to negotiate less enthusiastically when thheir client is going elsewhere on improved wages
Whereas if they are to be earning less then the agents will drive a harder bargain
Normally when we actively try to sell players, they wont be worth the salary they are on whereas when the players are actively seeking a move out, they normally do so as they get higher salary elsewhere.

Carroll is 'desperate' to return back to Newcastle.
I don't think we're going to have to pay much compensation if any at all but the truth of the matter is that he's likely to go on loan so there won't be a transfer till next season (if Newcastle take the option).
So we won't see the 15m or so till next season.
It's possible FSG will stump the money now upfront for transfers in anticipation of recuperating next season...

you are right in that if carroll doesnt want to go he doesnt have to. Simple as.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostBut how can we 'force' him into a transfer? A transfer MUST be accepted by both the club and the player. We cannot force Carroll to move if he doesn't want to (short of buying out his contract and releasing him on a free).
contractually speaking, we have instigated this by letting him know that he isnt part of the managers plans and that we are looking to offload him to another club through no fault of his own. Conversely, If real madrid had contacted his agent and he wanted to go when we wanted to keep him (like torres and chelsea) then he would he would be instigating the transfer.
whoever instigates pays.
FFS sorry peekay. Ive just ripped your post off. honestly didnt see it and yet ive written the exact same thing. ive spent the day in chesterfield but it must be in a different time zone because im 20 mins behind everyone else.

the best we can hope that as he is now saying he is keen to return then we can pay off a much smaller percentage of his outstanding wages, and get as high a fee as possible from newcastle.
just end it, and ffs, spend the money wisely

considering when we signed him he was injured, last year was his first real season with us. we're now bombing players out if they don't make an immediate impact. what happened to treating each player indivually and giving them a little patience. there are hundreds of players that take a year to settle into new clubs. he was starting to come good. sacking kenny was and still is madness. new managers = new players. lets hope rodgers is the real deal. if he then all this is immaterial. its just hard when you've been defending the signing to all and sundry, he starts to look a player and we're looking to bomb him out for a massive lost.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostHE's not been very good. Usually when players have not been very good, we want them to leave so we can buy someone with the money we get from them who is very good.
In conclusion, LFC should sell him because he isn't very good and buy someone who is very good.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

On the other hand, the Daily Torygraph says he has told friends he has unfinished business and wants to stay at LFC.Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostCarroll is 'desperate' to return back to Newcastle.
As with most things I doubt anyone except for AC actually knows what he really wants (and he may not even know himself).

Andy Carroll: Newcastle poised to improve loan offer for striker
Newcastle are expected to return with an improved offer to take Liverpool's Andy Carroll on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal in future.
Liverpool dismissed Newcastle's first offer on Sunday night, but the Anfield club will consider a better deal.
Newcastle initially only offered to pay part of Carroll's £80,000-a-week wages.
Newcastle also wanted to pay £13m if the 23-year-old then signed a permanant deal - the Reds are understood to want at least £17m.
The Newcastle hierarchy have retained their admiration for Carroll since he left for Liverpool in 2011.
The forward had initially resolved to prove himself to new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers but is now understood to be keen to return to his hometown club.
Carroll was not with the Liverpool squad as they left for a pre-season tour of North America on Monday having been granted an extended holiday after Euro 2012.
The England striker is due to join up with the squad on 23 July, alongside other internationals such as captain Steven Gerrard and goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
West Ham co-owner David Gold has also said the Upton Park club would be interested in signing Carroll.
Carroll struggled with Liverpool until belatedly finding both form and goals towards the end of last season.
He headed the winner for Liverpool against Blackburn, while also scoring against Everton in a FA Cup semi-final win and the 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the final.
He scored for England at Euro 2012 in the win against Sweden, but appears to have fallen out of favour at Anfield.
Rodgers signed striker Fabio Borini from Roma earlier this week in his first signing since taking over as Liverpool manager.
He is also planning contract talks to keep Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez at Anfield but has been noncommittal when talking about Carroll's future.
The striker helped the Magpies back into the Premier League with 17 league goals in the 2009-10 Championship season.
Carroll continued his promising form in the top flight in the following campaign and made his senior England debut under Fabio Capello in a 2-1 defeat at Wembley by France.
He scored 11 times in 19 league games before becoming the most expensive British player when ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish took him to Anfield.
