I agree, but a fan trying to physically assault a player is out of order no matter the situation

Point is, it's a disgrace whether it was race related or not.

Your previous post seemed to imply it was a problem only if it was race related.

Similar reaction last year with Eboue and Besiktas..........there were claims of racism from video observers again, but I think some Turkish translations were far from conclusive, and naturally Besiktas came out with a denial

"The treatment Emmanuel Eboue was given by Besiktas fans on Sunday has nothing to do with racism," Besiktas spokesman Mete Duren said on Monday.

"Similar treatment was given to a Turkish player during the game as well, the sole motivation for the act was Eboue's theatrics aimed at deceiving the referee."

Home fans reacted angrily as they felt the former Arsenal player had over-reacted to a tackle and had dived to mislead the referee.

Sunday's incident follows the outrage caused by FIFA president Sepp Blatter last Wednesday when he suggested incidents of racist abuse on the pitch should be settled with a handshake after the game.

The comments drew criticism from many, including Eboue who wrote on his Twitter account "say #NO2RACISM", and forced Blatter to apologise just two days later as he reiterated the governing body's "zero tolerance" attitude to racism in soccer.

Neither Eboue nor his club commented on the incident at the game but offensive chants by fans could be heard around the ground and media reports have suggested the abuse was racist.

Besiktas could be fined by the Turkish football federation for failing to control their supporters.

Duren added: "These are baseless allegations and should not be taken seriously, Besiktas fans have always had extra sympathy for African players because of the club's black-and-white colours.

"It's true that Turkish football has many issues to resolve, but racism is simply not one of them."

Well that last line is nonsense.

Secondly, of course the fans and the club are going to say it wasnt to do with racism. They're hardly going to admit it.

you say that, but there's been plenty of times down the years I'd have loved a fan to kick the **** out of a utd player. cantona, neville, keane, horseface etc. I've wanted to myself.

But with sensible head on, of course your right.

I left the thread because I couldn't be arsed arguing on pointlessly when I think I made my opinion pretty clear but why do you think that the Arsenal fans did it because he was **** but the Besiktas fans did it because he was black?

                            It's rather ironic really.

                              Vaguely related:

Turkey's Emre banned for insulting Didier Zokora

Fenerbahce and Turkey's Emre Belozoglu has been handed a two-match ban for insulting Ivory Coast's Didier Zokora by the Turkish Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK).

Trabzonspor's Zokora accused Emre of using a racial slur during Sunday's league game between the two clubs.

On Thursday, Trabzonspor filed a civil law suit at an Istanbul court accusing Emre of abusing Zokora.

Emre has denied racially abusing the Ivory Coast midfielder.

Former Tottenham player Zokora first levelled the accusation against Emre at a news conference following Fenerbahce's 2-0 home win in Istanbul over Trabzonspor.

"Emre and I had an argument during the game," Zokora explained, before adding that Emre used the N-word against him.

"What upsets me more is how disgraceful it is for a player who has African team mates like [Senegal's Moussa] Sow and [Nigeria's Joseph] Yobo to insult an African from another team."

The following day, ex-Newcastle player Emre told a news conference he had abused Zokora verbally in English without using racist terms, and that such abuse was common during matches.

"If I have even a little bit of racism, may God take my heart away from this body," Emre said.

The Turkish Football Federation subsequently referred the matter to the disciplinary committee, which decided on the ban.

"Due to the insult to the player of the rival team, it has been decided with the majority of votes to punish Fenerbahce player Emre Belozoglu by sanctioning a ban for two official games," the PFDK said on its website.

Had the committee decided the abuse was racial, Emre could have received a lengthier ban of four to eight matches.

In December, the FA banned Liverpool's Luis Suarez for eight games for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
                              Oh I don't know.
