IMO 4 wins and 4 draws in this group is a fairly poor return, especially when the two games left are against Poland and Montenegro. Capello would have walked this group.

Yet when he took us to a major competition we were ****ing ****. He did nothing for english football. He's a better manager than hodgson for sure, but if you're going to fail time after time its better in my eyes to do it with a manager born in the same country that he's managing. I'm talking international football here. There's no reason or excuse to look beyond what we have. Otherwise players should be able to represent other countries too. Hoddle and Venables have been the two best England managers in recent times.

Managers and coaches should be of the same nationality as the players and it should be a rule. They are so integral to the team that they should fall under the same qualifying rules as players if national teams are genuinely national.

IMO Sven is the best England manager the last 20 years or so.

It is a difference between playing panic football like Roy do and the controlled football Capello do.

I do agree with you that the manager shouldn't be foreign. It should even be a rule against it. Why should it be allowed to have a foreign manager for the national team when it isn't allowed to have foreign players playing for the national team?

i'm not arsed about england and i'll piss myself if they didn't qualify, however i do actually want them to qualify

why, because come next summer, the world cup, it's great - all your mates going the pub, pubs packed every gets pissed and i'll admit 'i'll cheer' england on. When they lose it doesn't bother me at all. It's just nice to have someone to actually support at the world cup, and i can't get behind another nation because well, i was born in england - there is always other teams or players i like that i will want to see do well, but i don't have any connection to them. The only time i've sort of supported another nation was spain due to the reina/arbeloa/alonso/torres and benitez links

He had one naff tournament (World Cup 2010), but secured qualification to that and Euro 2012 at a canter. He had a higher win percentage (66.7%) than Hoddle (60.7%) and Venables (47.8%). He deserved the opportunity to rectify England's World Cup performance at the European Championships at the very least.
