I see Roy has started preparing peoples' expectations for Euro 2016, World Cup 2018 and Euro 2020 by saying that "realistically I would say the current crop will be at their peak in 2022".

He's obviously been asked about our chances after bossing the group but he just can't help himself and always follows a positive with a negative ...

"You can win things when you're not at the peak of your powers, so I wouldn't write off 2016 or 2018, my work is to get the best out of them now and we are doing our level best to go there next year and win it."

      But

"There is a long way to go and they have a lot to learn about what makes you a top player. So, yes, I am excited but we need to keep things in perspective."

You've got to give it to him he puts the work in to make sure expectations are kept nice and low.

**** me, you'd hope not. I honestly can't imagine any other manager ever coming out with something like that.

To be fair his assessment of our chances are very hopeful. I think we can write off 2016 and 2018 with no problem at all.

So basically the **** is just getting his excuses in before games as usual, and piling the pressure on whatever poor sod has the job in 2022.

                It's the Hodgson way.

I'm sure he's already prepared the "we couldn't have expected to do any better speech"

It just baffles me that he got the England job. At best his career has been bang average.

The only things he seems to excel at is in lowering expectations and talking complete and utter rubbish.

Even someone like Allardyce would have been a massive upgrade on him if the FA had to an English manager.

Can't stop him though can we. Might need to convince Sturridge to feign illness!

Fans of Englands opponents should make a ****load of banners with that face on it, with that expression.

So that everywhere the England players look that's what they'll see!

                              Oh aye, cool, riiiiiiight.

But it was his insistence that England, led by Roy Hodgson, who pipped Redknapp to the post of manager, had never had a better opportunity to win an international tournament that stood out. In a bizarre exchange, however, just as newsreader Toby Gilles had quoted him directly, Redknapp interrupted, challenging the veracity of the quotation.

“I never said that,” he claimed on hearing his words re-broadcast on TalkSport. “I just said I think we should make the semi-finals at least. I don’t want to pile any more pressure on Roy.” But, as Gilles, sitting opposite him in the radio studio insisted, Redknapp had indeed said that. He had also said that the players at Hodgson’s disposal – particularly Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge, Harry Kane and Ross Barkley – comprised the strongest pool of talent available to an England manager in a generation. “It’s the best chance we’ll have,” he added.
