The FA's recruitment process is a bit like their disciplinary process, they make their mind up, then action accordingly.

In how many other jobs, let along high profile jobs, would only one person be interviewed?
    Oh I don't know.

        However.....

on reflection i think it might be a good move for the short term. There are a few reasons for this. the first and foremost is that harry redknapp carries too much baggage and you know at some point someone is going to come looking for him.

You dont know what spurs demands might have been for releasing him. They might have asked for a ridiculous amount of money.

the main reason is that i think the FA have a window of two to three years before the next generation of talented youngsters come through. The current 'golden' generation will all be finished by the end of this summer but there remains a 'performance gap' of around 2/3 years before the likes of henderson, carroll, jones, smalling, cleverley, oxlade-chamberlain will be ready to perform at a similar level to the gerrards, lampards, ferdinands etc...

If you also factor in that bar redknapp (who isnt the best tactically and this has been seen on several occasions this season and all his baggage) there are no other managers who are young with the sort of experience needed to manage an international team.

alan pardew is a decent manager but hes had one season at newcastle, alan curbishley etc... and there arent many others. The FA by appointing hodgson have effectively bought themselves 3 years to find another young manager who is experienced enough to lead to next generation of talented youngsters.

In three years time the next generation of managers and players will be coming through. in between roy has to do the best he can with what hes got (which wont be a lot). However, he will keep things steady, keep england in the top 10 without being spectacular. I think he;s just a night watchman until the other pieces fall into place.
He'll be lucky if he makes 3 months nevermnind 3 years.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

          He's clearly senile:

Roy Hodgson: "Every coach has to win over the players. I'd like to think given my CV I won't have any problems."

Words to the effect of "It's very difficult to win a major tournament but this one is made even more difficult by the fact that I'm coming into the job at this late stage, less time to prepare etc" He ****ing at it already.

It has been bizarre. Why did they leak his name to the press in advance of his interview? And why say he is the only candidate. He has been whoring himself for the position for years so they knew he would say yes. I reckon something fell apart in the courtship of 'Arry, but they don't want Woy knowing he is second choice hence the massive PR campaign.

And surely having a back up candidate is just good practice..?

Well, the press got what they wanted: an English manager.

Their choice was a bent English manager who has won pretty much **** all, or a ****e English manager who has won **** all. And the FA caved, citing their LMA Award as a sign of recruitment.

                    Bravo FA, *bravo*.
