In international football most teams that punch above their weight are based on simple tactical patterns and a fairly defensive game plan. His team have scored more or less the same number of goals as this season with much less talent in the team. His biggest problem, as it has been for the last few England managers, is the egos in the camp.
Absolutely. The football will be dire but if Hodgson has the time to ship out players who don't like his antiquated style and bring in the sort of decent but nothing special players he works well with, then he could get results. There's no point in bringing in the likes of Guardiola to manage an international team who have no tradition of free-flowing Spanish style football. Grind out the results and be hard to beat.

I'd say his biggest problem will be (as ever with England) the unreasonable expectation of both the press and public. He will not be given time, and will eventually suffer the same fate as Taylor and McLaren - both similar appointments.

He's such a strange ****in man. I thought that when he came to us he'd steady the ship, bring a bit of good team spirit back to us etc. I liked Fulham under him but as I only ever really saw them on MOTD I never really got a feel for the type of football they played. I assumed then the style the played in the Europa was the necessary more cautious approach smaller teams have to adopt in Europe and was always rooting for them. I think Fulham were a lot of people's second PL team for a while.

But the higher profile really did expose his flaws. I still think that people on here are way too harsh on him. He was a catastrophic appointmentfor LFC and his methods will never win anything with any decent team in a good league but he has a method that could have some success at international level.

I'd say his even bigger problem is that he is a **** manager Even if the expectations are reasonable he will manage to bring it down.

He is definitely a strange chap. He looked slightly unhinged/senile/care in the community during his press conference the other day. But at least in the early days he can fire out the same strangled cliches without any rebuke.

I think that as you say he is capable of doing a job at Fulham (possibly the prefect level and club for him) and a WBA. But anywhere where more is expected than survival or a decent cup run then he is going to struggle - he is just not that level of manager.

I look at Hodgson and wonder how the hell mediocrity continues to be rewarded. You see the same thing at work too, arse lickers and buffoons promoted beyond expectations...

ESPN talking to Tim Vine about Hodgson.

Chappers: "And they LOVE Roy at Inter Milan."

                Another lie!

The re-writing of history is in full swing.

Heard Robbie Savage earlier: "If you take away his spell at Liverpool, his CV makes him the outstanding candidate"

Yeah and if you take away all of Huddersfield Town's losses & draws, they'd be the world's best team too.

The revisionism is incredible. Do they think he's a demi-god in Scandinavia or something?

He is the Antichrist. Deceives everyone wherever he goes. Comes to us and tramples on everything we stand for. Bin him and he goes back to deceiving everyone again.

Most people I speak to in Norway think he is a useless cunt. They were as suprised as we were when he got the Liverpool job and even more so when he got the ingerlund job

Its not even just Liverpool failure either, theres Blackburn and Bristol City. Does show the incredible power of the media though, people like him and Moyes are seen as legends of the game by a lot in this country and CL and La Liga winners are seen as ****.

The fact is that england don't have the quality players that 3 or 4 other teams in the euros have. Bodger will do no better or worse than any other england manager in the last 20 years

Based on the way this season has gone for us, Hodgson will probably inspire England to a victory in the Euros and instantly be the 2nd most successful England manager of all time earning himself a knighthood
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
