Unless I have missed something, Hodgson is guilty of nothing more than cracking a **** joke. There should be no punishment no matter what you think of him. If you really honestly think he should be punished, then you're not being particularly rational.

So in this analogy, Smalling is the "man" and Townsend is the "monkey".Originally posted by Buzzo View Post
“NASA decided they’d finally send a man up in a capsule after sending only monkeys in the earlier missions,” the joke goes.
“They fire the man and the monkey into space.
“The intercom crackles, 'Monkey, fire the retros.'
“A little later, 'Monkey, check the solid fuel supply.'
“Later still, “Monkey, check the life support systems for the man.'
“The astronaut takes umbrage and radioes NASA, 'When do I get to do something?'
“NASA replies, 'In 15 minutes - feed the monkey.'”
WTF? Its a bit ****ing cryptic.
Couldn't he just tell Smalling to get the ball to Townsend?
I guess with his limited coaching knowledge he's got a lot of time to kill at half time and has started doing some stand up to pass the time?
Was Bodge just telling Smalling at half-time that he's useless and should leave all the work to Townsend?
That rug really tied the room together.

Yet more proof,if it were needed, that he's a total dickhead. Sure nothing was intended but only a brainless **** would relate that story and apply it to a black lad. Feed the monkey ie give the ball to Townsend. Dear God. If there was no intention and I'm certain there wasn't why did he even feel the need explain himself to Andros afterwards or apologise through the media today?I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

Imagine if the exact same situation had occurred, but it was Rodgers in place of Hodgson telling the joke. Would you have the same reaction? I doubt it.Originally posted by wavydavy View PostYet more proof,if it were needed, that he's a total dickhead. But people are trying to use this joke as a stick to beat the bloke.*Except Michael, who died.

Not sure many are seriously using it as a stick to beat him with. But don't you find it odd that in that situation he'd decide to crack a joke like that? It's pretty bizarre in all honesty. A bit of a surreal half-time teamtalk.Originally posted by Alex View PostImagine if the exact same situation had occurred, but it was Rodgers in place of Hodgson telling the joke. Most normal managers would say "Smalling, make sure you give the ball to Townsend". Not talk about NASA and monkeys. Plain weird

I've clearly stated that I know he meant nothing by the **** joke. I just can't believe he's stupid enough to invite criticism by even using such terms. We all know how ****ing crazy the press and social media are and I'd credit Rodgers with more sense than to get caught out like this. He's far more savvy, something that we're always told is prerequisite for an England managerOriginally posted by Alex View PostImagine if the exact same situation had occurred, but it was Rodgers in place of Hodgson telling the joke. No I don't. A sense of humour is usually a good thing. ****ing it up is a different matter.Originally posted by Sarb View PostNot sure many are seriously using it as a stick to beat him with. And yes, this thread is full of people using it as a stick to beat him with.
Oh I don't know.
