It’s an interesting relationship between salary caps and Covid. Salary cap is a percentage of revenue, salaries are subject to long term contracts, revenue is variable, and in extreme cases like Covid, can drop like a stone. How do you lower salaries of players with contracts or quickly increase revenue? The former is extremely difficult, to the point that creating a new Super League was probably the more feasible option.

Obviously Covid has been the big driving factor and the loss in revenue is the reason for this. I'm not sure how close they are to the salary cap in a normal season, but looking at the numbers it seems that they were using it more as a target than a limit.

Given the situation surely not trying to sign new players when you knew you weren't going to meet the salary cap would be a start. Aguero, Depay and Garcia will all be on decent salaries which were going to make their situation worse. Perhaps if they hadn't signed those players, the league might have been more willing to be flexible, but (to me at least) it seems that they thought they could just bully their way through the rules.

1) Messi is arguably the great player in the world since he was 18
2) He's been paid so much money over the years, he wouldn't be able to spend it all so why doesn't he put something back into the club if he ****ing loves it so much... and that's irrespective of the financial mismanagement.

To those saying 'why should he play for free?' - it's simple, because he's partly responsible for the massive hole in the club's finances with his ridiculous salary and add-ons/bonuses for nearly two decades. If he genuinely loved the club, he'd do whatever it takes to stay... crocodile tears and 'poor me' press conference stinks to **** in my eyes. Just because you're used to printing your own money, doesn't mean you should continue to do so...

Sergio Agüero and his lawyers are reviewing the terms of the contract signed a few weeks ago to leave Barça this summer.

The feeling around Kun Agüero is that "his future at Barça is not looking good".
