So careless. I assume the pandemic has decimated them, but really, how you can even be getting even remotely close to this is negligent beyond any sense that those within the organisation had a clue what they are doing.

Definitely been some optimistic accountancy in the past and then the best part of two years without fans or trophies.

There's a good twitter thread on it a page back or so... basically they spunked a **** ton on fees and wages for players who were ****, Countinho included.

In a week or so i reckon the vultures will be circling.

If there's nothing dodgy going on the tax rate of 45% will be applied.

So it's essentially double that amount per week that PSG are paying in wages.

Like it matters a ****. Chump change to their owners

I think there are PL teams with a similar problem? Especially post-Covid. I'm sure I saw a chart somewhere that showed some teams wages/turnover ratio was ~90%. From memory Everton's was over 100% *

It makes the current Man City and PSG spending all the more sickening really.

        * my memory is terrible so this is probably completely incorrect.

Someone has to be splashing out on Pedri? It would boil my piss if City or Chelsea signed him.

Does France still have that 100% tax rule above €1m per annum? So essentially if an employer wants to pay someone €2m a year gross they have to pay €1m more in tax and then the employee pays their tax on €2m?

I would imagine every avenue to get around things like that are in play. A player there might earn 10 million a year but who is to say all 10 million gets paid to them in France?

They might get 2 million of their wages from PSG and that goes through the French revenue system but then they may be receiving a further 8m for being a Quatari brand ambassador or whatever and that may be going through the Quatari banking/revenue system and to a bank account registered to a Quatari address or whatever. Am sure there are plenty of shady yet legal ways around the tax system.

All of that with no view on a bigger picture.

I blame the club for that tbh- what player is gonna say Heyy wait guys yer actually paying me too much here… and what player would turn down the kind of power that they gave him about approving approving incoming players/managers, etc.

They shoulda sold him for 250m or something 2/3 years ago and gotten a top manager in, to rebuild the team.

Interesting article, which firmly paints Laporta as the bad guy. Could be ****e of course, you never know with Ballague

It broke Messi's heart and once again he feels betrayed by the club he has given so much to. Barcelona had asked him to accept a 50% reduction in wages and he accepted without even trying to negotiate it.

In fact a 50% reduction is the legal maximum anyone can be compelled to take, so even if Messi had been prepared to accept a bigger reduction, the club would have been breaking the law had they agreed to it.
It does then go on to say...

While it is true that during his holiday in Ibiza he met with ex-Barca team-mate Neymar, Argentina team-mates Angel di Maria and Leandro Paredes, and Italian star Marco Verratti (all of whom play for PSG), nothing at that point had been decided and he still fully believed he would sign for Barcelona when he returned.
                  Hm.

The problem has been brewing for years. Not sure how it is the fault of a guy who has been in charge for 5 months!

Definitely. By the sound of it though it was all agreed, but Barca have forced him out (reading between the lines)

That bit about the wages is ****ing hilarious. What a load of ****e. Yes, if you worked in a normal job it’s an enforceable rule to protect wages. Not designed for a guy on £600k pw

                        Pure Messi propaganda.

600k+ pw after tax at that.

If Barca had any sense they’d write off this season and next and focus on youth and rebuilding. La Masia still us the world’s best academy and produces top players every year.

Build around Pedri, Fati, Gavi, Moriba and more, keep some old heads Pique, Busquests, Alba etc. Use the likes of Frenkie, Ter Stegen and Griezemann as the main players. Bin off the expensive rejects and supplement with academy players.

Signing Aguero made no sense - it was more pandering to Messi………..

I used to really respect them as a club but it’s hard to pick a worse run club in football history than them over the past 5 years or so. Maybe Leeds but Barca had everything to succeed and ego got in the way of sense

Notice the trend in that article around contract renewal time - he always finds a reason to threaten to leave.
