By realism, do you mean people agreeing with you think?Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostI'm glad to see some realisim seep into the posts on this forum. It's made me want to start posting again.
Dempsey is a better option than Kuyt for sure but only at the right price.

Not particularly no. It'd be no fun discussion wise if we all had the same opinion. It just seemed for a while people had very unrealistic expectations.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostBy realism, do you mean people agreeing with you think?
My expectations aren't extremely low or anything but I am just glad to see people aren't tipping us to challenge etc like they have done so readily in the past.
Out of all the forums I have trawled through this one still seems to be the most reasoned.

I'd be quite surprised if anyone thought we'd be challenging, I just hope we can push up the table and show much more consistency and try and challenge for fourth.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostNot particularly no. I just don't think Dempsey is who we should be going for to do it.

Agree to a certain extent, and it's always nice to see a new poster getting involved, but I do think there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the coming season. I also think we could spend £10 million far more wisely than buying Clint Dempsey. I'm with Matt on this one - £5-6 million would represent god value. As he only has 1 year on his contract, I think we can afford to let Fulham sweat on this one.Originally posted by danperkins View Post
We are were we are, the sooner people realise it and accept it.. the better IMO.
To my mind the two priority positions now are a left sided forward (hopefully a marquee signing with cash raised from sales) and a technical box to box midfielder (Allen or Holtby would do nicely!). My guess is that Dempsy would be brought in to offer strong competition to all of the attacking players, but he'd essentially be a squad player.K ris90210

I agree with you on that one. But with what we appear to have transfer fund wise we could do a lot worse if we got him for around 5 million. It'd be ridiculous to pay anymore considering he is 29 and in the last year of his contract.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI'd be quite surprised if anyone thought we'd be challenging, I just hope we can push up the table and show much more consistency and try and challenge for fourth.

The consistency thing is key. On our day with the players we have we can and have beaten anybody. Just need to do it more often.

You're absolutely spot onOriginally posted by Mattshark View PostBut the circumstance and roles are different. Teams, for a start, don't set up v Fulham as they do against us.
However, it's been a problem of ours for 20 years that we are easy to stop and struggle against any team prepared to park the bus. United don't suffer the same fate and just plough through teams. I'm far more confident that Dempsey has the strength to muscle his way through on goal than Kuyt did. Only Suarez and Gerrard in our current squad are more powerful and so he must be seen as an improvement.

Apparently being 29 is a weakness.Originally posted by badpiggy View PostWhat are his weaknesses for those who say he's not good enough? Does he have poor control/first touch? Is he slow? Is he poor positionally? Does he give the ball away? Is he lazy? Poor defensively? Does he miss easy chances regularly?Modifying post.
