We have a goal scoring, left sided forward..Why do we need another one..

Yeah, I read that the other day. We'll probably see Borini and Suarez move about a fair bit I reckon. I was assuming (and still am) we'll see Borini on the right based on reading a few articles where it's been said Rodgers sees him slotting in on the right hand side of a front 3. I reckon that what he's told the press.

What are his weaknesses for those who say he's not good enough? Does he have poor control/first touch? Is he slow? Is he poor positionally? Does he give the ball away? Is he lazy? Poor defensively? Does he miss easy chances regularly?

I don't think he necessarily has any weak points. He's strong on the ball, his positioning and work rate are good. He's good in the air. He's pretty good technically. And he clearly has goals in him. He's a very solid player. But is he going to be enough to close the gap on the top 4? I don't think so really. And at 29 he's probably not got that much scope for improvement. I think he'd be a really good squad player for us though. £10 million is a lot for a squad player - especially when we're short on cash. That's my view.

How I see it too.

Fine as a squad player for a couple of million but we've loads of squad players. £10m(ish) is insane. We need two or three good first teamers that will make a difference.

If we've bundles of cash and sort out our first team problems then I'm okay with Dempsey coming in for a few million to replace Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy. I just don't think he's good enough to start every week and help us compete for a place in the top four.

Agree to a certain extent, and it's always nice to see a new poster getting involved, but I do think there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the coming season. I also think we could spend £10 million far more wisely than buying Clint Dempsey. I'm with Matt on this one - £5-6 million would represent god value. As he only has 1 year on his contract, I think we can afford to let Fulham sweat on this one.

To my mind the two priority positions now are a left sided forward (hopefully a marquee signing with cash raised from sales) and a technical box to box midfielder (Allen or Holtby would do nicely!). My guess is that Dempsy would be brought in to offer strong competition to all of the attacking players, but he'd essentially be a squad player.

10 million is too much, for me max of 7-8 million.

Agree on the LM & CM, technically good and pacey wide man and someone in the CM who can pull the strings. No doubts Rogers is looking to fill those voids, hopefully he fills them with talent.

For me Dempsey would add a certain fire/steel to the squad and he does have ability too. I'm of the opinion that he would surprise a few people if he came, should be interesting what develops over coming days.
