    I think it's a ridiculous view Slinky.

Let's say you're a carpenter and sign a 4 year deal to work with one company on £400 a week.

If after two years of good work a bigger company offers you £800 a week what would you do?

Take into account you may never get another chance to make this move.

    ----------------

In fairness to Dempsey his situation isn't as simple as that. If he stays put for another year he could walk away from Fulham for nothing. No transfer fee equals more money in his pocket.

He wants more than money though, he doesn't want to waste time, he wants to play for a top club now - Liverpool FC.

    Who can blame him?
    Forwards.......

Yes, but do Carpenters earn 20k, 50k, 150k a week??

        No

And do they perform in front of thousands of people week in week out who expect them to do the best and fight for their club??

        No they don't.

Footballers are greedy ****ing mercenary cunts, each and every single one of them.

I will always blame Moores and Parry.

Hardly surprising is it ? these are guys who drive ridiculously flash cars .. marry carboard cut outs of wags and act like spoilt children on the pitch ... very few men out there if you ask me in football ...

That said he has to balance looking after his family interest with being a good guy to his employer ... but before you all get all lovey dovey socialist on him .... Word to the wise ... its a rare employer indeed who would takes the high road when the shoe is on the other foot ie .... They have a player ...doing a fine job .. but a better player comes available but it will be at the expense of the guy who has done absolutely nothing wrong ..... will say hey Clint has been good to us ... lets keep instead ... will they **** ...the football clubs want it both ways at times ... either way .. I dont care ... I rate him.. he will make us stronger and he can play Brens system ... get him

While I don't like the idea of players going on strike and threatening to quit their clubs for a move elsewhere, but it's part of the game and I can't blame them for doing it. Alot of people are saying such moves are motivated by money that may be true or it may not the player may just want to make the most of what is a short career by getting a chance at a bigger club, yes the money will almost certainly be better but that may not be their primary motivation.

Players usually can't just hand in their notice like most of us could with our jobs, so you have to use whatever power you have to get the best out of your career. Often it will end like this, with the player screwing the club over, sometimes it works the other way around the club forcing a player out.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Still unacceptable behaviour IMO. The contract that exists between the player and the club is a two way street, and while both sides exact advantages on either side, to not live up to the contract you signed is totally unacceptable.
Players' income is protected by the contract they sign, even if a club wants to sell a player for their own reasons, the agreement between the two parties prevent the club from taking advantage monetarily. Cancellation of the contract by a club requires an agreement of the amount of money due for the remainder of that contract.....that happens with every transfer. There's nothing to prevent a player sticking around for the timespan of his contract and as long as he is available to play, he still gets paid.
Similarly, if the likes of Dempsey want to force a move which the club is not inclined to give, he could try to negotiate with that club to cancel his contract......but it'll cost him and rightly so, but that's not something that enters the thinking of the typical 'gravy-train' footballer.

They purely see the money when signing their contracts, not their obligation, no doubt embolden by the reassurances from their agents that they can get out at any time. It's not a normal job, it's a time based contract of expectation and should be treated as such, so we cannot compare to 'normal' work experiences most of us have. (Although having said that, in my role there is an opportunity to travel, up skill and benefit monetarily if you're so inclined - but there is a contractual obligation to remain at the job for the next 12 months. What would happen if I went on strike because I wanted to leave a month into that ?)

It's irresponsible behaviour from the player, and while it's not unprecedented and has 'worked' before, it doesn't make it right and just reinforces the perception that these pricks aren't living in the real world.
