So its the french connection you are hoping will pay dividends....

Welbeck is bang average. Yes, he has speed, but nothing else. He flatters to deceive....

He does need some working on, no doubt, but he's got good attributes. Mobile, fairly quick and decent technique. He does seem to lack confidence and game intelligence, which can be taught, in that case, by a master instructor.
      Are we winning?

I'm surprised at the hatred he's getting for wanting to stay and fight for his place, or holding out for a move for a more competitive team. If he went to QPR, there's a great chance he'll be playing in the Championship next season. Like I said before, Rodgers has given other players lifelines in the past and they've taken it despite their LFC career looking like it was over. I'd say it's more commendable than anything else. I'm not sure how many minutes he's going to get, but he could be handy, particularly if there are a few injuries.

For me that's the crux of the matter. He's hardly likely to get a move to a top team if he is not playing for us (or potentially not in the match day squad). At least if he went to somewhere where he was playing regularly he could showcase his talents week in, week out.

I have no hatred for him - I just think that he has been incredibly badly advised.

I'm not so sure. I'm assuming that should an Italian or higher calibre club than QPR or the ****ing mackems come in for him then it would be earlier to move from us than from either of them. Possibly sees it as a long term decision and wants to make sure his choice is the correct one. No issue with him choosing to stay and fight for his place (regardless of how little success I think he'll have).
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Loyalty works both ways. I hope this is a Henderson to Fulham type situation. I do think he was counting on a last minute loan move from a big Italian club which I think we refused to entertain.

He hasnt done either of those things, he just wants loads of money to leave. Seems he'd rather not play and hang around his missus great that.

I can't see it being a situation like Henderson though. Henderson was given a choice by Rodgers about staying or going. As I recall, he didn't then start negotiating a deal with Fulham only for it to break down due to personal terms. Henderson really did want to stay and fight for his place - Borini was prepared to move on, and Rodgers has publicly advised him to do so. This is not an attack on Borini, just how I see the situation as different.

Also our midfield at the time was no great shakes and was easier to get in to than our attack is now. Borini has got Sturridge, Balotelli and Lambert in front of him. Even if he gets a run of games in the Carling Cup, he won't be playing for the showpiece games. If we get to say the semi finals, we will play our first choice strikers. Rodgers has said that he really wants a trophy this season.

A few injuries to strikers and we could well need Borini this season. I'm glad he's still around, 4th choice striker is better than none at all

He wouldn't have said 'No. I'm not going because I want to fight it out to get in the first team at Liverpool'. All this talk about QPR being **** kind of pales into insignificance when you remember that he was prepared to go there and was discussing the move.

I'm not sure how that equates to ambition. In fact you could argue that Assaidi has shown more ambition by wanting to put himself out there, playing PL football every week.

                                Thats my suspicion as well
